It may help to try putting your iPhone into recovery mode, then update via iTunes.

Oct 2, 2014 11:19 PM in response to Allen Aby jorgensg,I've been through this already and am familiar with the process. I've tried all the recovery modes. Also the power/ power&home / home sequence. It wouldn't complete a restore without the error saying it hasn't been set up (with a black screen) before it totally died- powerless and not charging or being recognised. I don't have anything unusual installed since I only ever used it as a phone. Also discharged very quickly at the time and nothing I've tried since gets it enough power for the PC to recognise it. I've got to get a new phone since I've spent to much time on it - just won't be an apple.
