Parts from newer Macbook into older one?

Hi,

I have a late 2006 (1.1) MacBook which is still running great, after a couple of repairs and upgrades I made myself. However, some of the parts are starting to wear. The body, for example, is falling to pieces and has holes everywhere, cables starting to show and so on. I'm thinking to buy a newer MacBook from eBay which is being sold for repairs or parts, and strip the most useful items and use them to repair mine. Does anyone know if there are likely to be issues with this? How much of the two models (say between 2006 and 2008) share the same parts? The hard drive and battery from the later models would be wonderful if I can cannibalise them.

So I'll need to know exactly which parts you want to replace.

Probably mostly unlikely to be compatible.

So for instance if I search the Apple designator for the upper case and keyboard, I'll get late 2006 to mid 2007 for the 13" MacBook. So 2 years apart probably not.

You could try searching the exact part you need.

You could contact specialists such as wegenermedia, powerbookmedic,

& others that repair computers for a living; some have a parts inventory.

The iFixit site shows some of the taken apart Apple portables and at times

will show part number references that may be used in some instances to

look elsewhere for other similar items; most won't be compatible across

the detailed build model series of their production run.

There is a lookup link in powerbookmedic site, similar to the serial number

lookup previously posted; I found their link will be somewhat secure if your

browser supports https:// but not always. The actual need to identify your

own product may not need to go beyond Apple support information, or that

found in the mactracker.ca download database application.

http://everymac.com - has much info and also links to parts sources

As spudnutty said, these likely do not share (many if any) parts; buy from those

vendors who test what they sell w/ guaranty, those with a fair return policy, too.

Some batteries and power adapters may work, be sure to read up on that.

Replacement batteries can be bothersome, esp if MB is misidentified...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
