“The item can't be copied because it is too large for the volume's format.”

I'm trying to transfer two large movies, and to be exact their size is 18,36GB, into my external hard drive but every time I do that, a box appears saying: “The item can't be copied because it is too large for the volume's format”. Can somebody tell me what to do, please?

The drive is probably formatted for a Windows flavor that doesn't support files of 4GB+. If you're going to use the drive with both the Mac OS and Windows machines, you can format it as exFAT and you should have no problems. If you're going to use the drive exclusively on your Mac, format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" using Disk Utility.

Good luck,
