I can't get the air play icon to appear on my iphone 4s - using IOS 8. I am trying to air play to my recently purchased Apple TV. I have confirmed that air play is enabled on apple tv and that both the iphone and the apple tv are connected to the same wi fi network. Still can't get the air play icon to appear.
Are both logged into the same AppleID?
I am a newbie at this and barely know what I am doing - but I am trying to get my iphone to air play on my apple tv and the air play icon will not appear. it is iphone 4s with ios 8 and they are both connected to the same wi fi - but no air play icon will show on my iphone menu bar

yes - they are. the air play icon is showing on the apple tv - but now on the iphone
What app do you have open (i.e. what exactly are you trying to aiplay to the appleTV)?
if your router is blocking the required ports then it needs to be changed if you don't know much about such things getting help from a friend and or relative would be advised
