The technician at the Apple store genius bar will evaluate the MBP for FREE. Any repair costs will be made known to you and you may accept or decline the repair. Without a clear understanding what may be exactly wrong with your MBP, no one here can give any meaningful cost assessment.

The only way you will be able to get a definitive assessment of the problem is for a trained technician inspect your MBP. There are options to ship your MBP to an Apple facility, but there will be a cost associated with that. If you have no faith in the local service personnel, then you are in a difficult position.

Mike, I understand your frustration but these are user-to-user forums; we are not Apple employees.

You have found the same resources for translating the AHT error codes that we have as mere mortals. Unless an Apple Certified Tech sees the post and has more info, you have already translated that code as far as any of us can.

Did you run the test on battery or while plugged in?

That's about it, I'm afraid. A certified Apple tech can run a test specifically for that video card issue.

1. Can you connect an external monitor when the built-in screen goes blank?

2. Which specific 2010 MBP model do you have?

3. There is "More Like this" section that you can check - here is an example - Re: 4SNS/1/40000001: VPOR-0.592 Which could mean the error?

4. Please run ioreg -lw0 and output to a text file. Check which device the sensor belongs to. For example, Sensor ID 6 in the system is a GPU sensor on my specific rMBP.

Can I suggest that you just use the built-in LCD and observe? If the screen does go black on the built-in, then plug-in the external monitor and report what the behavior is?
