Apple Hardware Test ___ 4SNS /1/40000000:VPOR-14.685 ___ Wich could it mean?

It's months that my macbook pro 2010's screen turns off while working. All i can do is force the quitting pressing the power button, and turn on the mac again.

SMC reset and pram reset didn't solve my trouble.

I started an apple hardware test and it turned me back this error: 4SNS /1/40000000:VPOR-14.685

So, 4SNS indicates that this is a system sensor problem. V is "voltage" and P indicates Power bus. This is all I know.

Can you tell me anything? I want to bring my mac to the Apple assistance, but first i want to be sure about my problem. Do you have any idea about my economical damage? 😁

1. Can you connect an external monitor when the built-in screen goes blank?

2. Which specific 2010 MBP model do you have?

3. There is "More Like this" section that you can check - here is an example - Re: 4SNS/1/40000001: VPOR-0.592 Which could mean the error?

4. Please run ioreg -lw0 and output to a text file. Check which device the sensor belongs to. For example, Sensor ID 6 in the system is a GPU sensor on my specific rMBP.

Hi Loner,

1. I usually use a second monitor, when the mackbook turns black, the second monitor turns black too

2. Macbook pro 15" mid 2010, 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, OSX 10.6.8

3. Already searched, nothing helpful, can't find exactly the same error code

4. You really have to help me on this point: i can't paste here all the text that the terminal gives me, what i have to search?

Really thank you

Can I suggest that you just use the built-in LCD and observe? If the screen does go black on the built-in, then plug-in the external monitor and report what the behavior is?

It is likely that others may have seen the same code, but may not have reported it in discussions. Please see Mac notebooks: Apple Hardware Test may report SNS alert when power adapter is not connected. (same as the one referenced earlier by Esquared )

You do not need to but, try the grep command and my output is specific to the gpu-sensor.

Here is small snippet..

grep -n -e sensor -e Sensor -e SNS /tmp/ioreg.txt
