Defective Iphone 6 screens?

Can anyone tell me if there is a defect in Iphone 6 screens?

I have had this phone all of 4 days and it is broken! It did not survive a 2 foot impact from a 32g spice bottle. I do not understand how there are videos showing the screen surviving hammers, waist and head high drops! I feel so deceived thinking this product was going to be better than the 4S that I upgraded from. (long story but the 4S survived 2 years without a scratch to the screen.. dropped numerous times) I checked the apple services and they want me to charge me 297 euros (we are in France) to mail-in a repair.

My husband and have had similar issues with the 6 screens. We have had every iPhone there is and maybe broken one. We get the 6 and mine broke within the first 3 wks and had to be replaced. And yes we all care for our expensive devices and it is dillly to think it will never fall. Our other ones have been dropped and had the same type of lifeproof or otterbox and lasted years. My husband got his and had the same thing happen. And these aren't small breaks. These are complete shatters. So we both have replaced and have the back in an otter box or lifeproof case. He already has a cracked corner. Everyone is careful what th their $500-$900 devices. Who would not be. But they do get dropped on occasion. .it would be silly to assume otherwise. I seriously don't know anyone who has not dropped their phone at some point. Something is diff with the screen. Maybe they went too thin or the glass hardness not quality enough. But I am not the only one who has had a simple drop shatter a phone even on a carpet surface or a crack appear after a wk or 2 without a drop. The screens are too thin or something. 3 phones. 1 month. My husband replaced his 4 with the 6 b/c of technology. Not b/c something was wrong with his crazy old 4. That screen and the one on the 5 was great. It would take a serious trauma to break it. A slip out of a pocket 1-2ft tying a shoe! Iand it shatters is ridiculous and should be embarrassing to Apple. I have dropped my 5 while cycling, many times just by accident, while running. It is always in a good case. These screens are off. I have already had friends have this happen too. We all have apple care. It is going to cost Apple a fortune replacing these over and over. Don't make assumptions. Many of us are covered.

I am the same. Apple is going to be replacing these over and over. The screens suck. I had mine break over nothing. Similar to yours. My husband had his in an insane otter box and it shattered yo the point of non use. It was a simple fall also. Hard surface. But in the case. None of our other phones would have broken. All of the other iPhones tolerated minor falls. This one would break if a toddler sat on it on a cushy sofa I bet. Lol. My hubbies replacement is already cracked at the corner. These screens are terrible. We have never broken phones b4. Now we have had 3 breaks in 2 months.

The screens are not defective. They're made out of glass. And glass can crack or shatter if struck appropriately. There was a rumor iPhone 6 would come with a Sapphire screen, which would indeed have made it less susceptible to scratches, but Sapphire is much easier to shatter, so the new iPhone comes with Ion Infused Gorilla Glass. Glass being the operative word, can break if impacted on or by a hard surface. Sorry you're upset, but the bottle impacting your screen from a 2 foot fall certainly would make sense your glass cracked. The only options you have would be to pay the "out of warranty" replacement cost (accidental damage is not covered under your warranty) or if you had purchased AppleCare+ when you bought your phone, you could exercise one of the two accidental damage claims available to you over a 2 year period. I'm guessing you didn't spend the $99 (US) in AppleCare+ so you'll have to spend euros you were quoted to replace the phone.

Thanks for the help rbrylawski. I was really looking forward to having a stronger glass. In France, Applecare is not offered when buying from service providers. I contacted my SP and they tell me I have to go to an authorized apple repair center. I will still be out of another 200 euros... The saddest part.... I ordered a survivor case for the phone when I placed the order... It was on back order and I get a notification TODAY to say... delivery tomorrow. Feel like I should have gotten the Samsung now. 😟 It came with a survivor case. Live and learn I guess. Thanks again.

I'm really sorry the screen cracked. But do know a Samsung screen can crack.

If I were you, I'd go to an Apple Store and be so nice one might think you were dripping honey. Tell them your phone cracked and exactly how it cracked. Then, with a really nice approach, ask the genius if there's anything he might be able to do for you. I've heard many times that when approached from a really really nice attitude, Apple Genius have been known to offer a replacement without charge. This is most common with a brand new phone, within the 2 week return period. You have nothing to lose by being really nice and honest.

I hope it works out for you in your favor.

I have a similar story - 3 day old iPhone 6 screen broke after falling 30cm from my pocket while i tied my shoelace. - bizarrely, a 45 degree crack 1cm in from each of 3 corners and also a large diagonal crack. The phone was bought to replace a 3 year old 4S whose screen had just broken... 3 years versus 3 days - seems like Apple are trying to generate revenue for themselves. This is by far and away the most disappointed I have been with a new Apple product, and I have been buying apple products for nigh on 28 years...

So, Apple employs ghosts that go around and knock iPhones out of people's hands?

Did you have the iPhone in a protective case?

Did you purchase AppleCare Plus for the device?

I love this kind of logic. Apple makes more profit from the iTunes/App Store than they do from iPhone sales. Broken iPhones can't use the iTunes/App Store. There is literally no incentive for Apple to make phones that 'break easily'.

Really?? You're mad at Apple because you dropped your phone on a hard surface and the screen cracked? You should be mad at yourself for not taking better care of your device. And since you had just replaced another phone who you had a cracked screen on, one might expect that you'd take more precautions with your device and do as TJBUSMC suggested above. Did you purchase AppleCare+ when you bought your phone? Probably not.

I most certainly am angry with myself that I allowed a situation to arise whereby my phone dropped from my pocket - I fully admit negligence on my part!

I am disappointed with the fact that the product that I bought is of inferior quality to the 3 year old item it replaced! One would expect that each successive release of a product would be superior in every regard to that which preceeded it. My 3 day experience of the iPhone 6 is that it is not, and that why I am unhappy.

I have just gotten off the line with Apple, who have just told me that it will cost 297.80 euro to replace the screen. Costly mistake on my part.

@rbrylawski - the product was not purchased through the applestore, therefore no applecare.

@TJBUSMC1973 - I was being facetious with that remark - apologies...

I'm sure you are upset and I'm sorry your screen broke. I do take exception however, with the assertion the phone is not better than previous models. I personally think my iPhone 6 is a stunning achievement. Yes, it's thinner and lighter, so knowing my phone would be out and about, I put mine in a protective case. And yes, I did buy AppleCare+, which I add to EVERY iPhone and iPad I've purchased. But you are wrong that you couldn't have purchased AppleCare+ because you didn't purchased the phone directly from Apple. I didn't buy my phone directly from Apple, but the day it arrived, I called Apple and bought AppleCare+, which they gladly sold me over the phone. You could have as well.

Again, sorry you cracked your screen. It's a disheartening feeling and I do feel for you in that regard.

I just came back from apple store My iPhone 6 got a hairline crack and i wasn't even touching it when it happened. In store they say under warrantee for 1 year and gave me a new iPhone. AND APPARENTLY like mine some iPhone 6 over heat and crack on their own is what i was told when you go in store they can get a diagnostic from your iPhone telling you the issues your iPhone has..battery..wifi..drop calls..etc.. Took 5 minutes and got myself a new phone!

@NikiRodriguez

Thanks for posting this. I also discovered to small cracks (that seem to be under the glass) in the upper left and lower right corner. I did not drop it - I pulled it out of my pocket and discovered the cracks (iPhone 6+) - really wired that cracks (one is ~1cm, the other one less) under the glass, surface is still smooth.

I will definitely stop at the AppleStore pretty soon - hope they will have replacement units in stock ... (its not bad, but annoys me)
