iphone 6 gyroscope problem

Hello all,

I am having some serious issues with the gyroscope on my new Iphone 6 (not plus). I've had two main problems thus far that i am aware of:

1. Facetime : I am upside down to my recipients. If they try to rotate their phone (also iphone 6) I see them rotate, but the only way for them to see me not upside down is for me to turn my phone completely upside down. This in turn allows us to converse properly.

2. Text messaging: Either i can't turn my text messaging sideways and activate portrait view, or it goes in to portrait view randomly, and wont back out of it until i shut off the phone.

I can sit there and try to rotate the phone as often as I like, and it just hangs on whatever view it chooses. Toggling the lock for portrait view seems to momentarily fix my issues, but then they return shortly thereafter.

Anyone else finding this issue? Hardware issue or software? Not too sure where to go from here.

Thanks.

(Note: I have not upgraded to 8.0.1 as I have read things that recommend holding off for now. Still running IOS 8.0)

Have you calibrated the compass in your phone? From the middle of your home page swipe your finger down and this brings up Spotlight Search. Type in Compass and tap it when it is found. Then calibrate the compass. After you've done so, reboot your phone. Press and hold BOTH the home and power buttons at the SAME time until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your phone will restart. See if orientation is more correct after your phone comes back up.

Cannot get the calibration option either. The compass is just stuck, does not move. The level works, but the compass does not move at all. A calibration option has not been offered. Have rebooted, have turned off location services then rebooted then turned location services back on, but the compass remains dead. All these replies assume there is an ability to calibrate. But there does not appear to be any way to initiate a calibration. Is there some way I can myself initiate a calibration?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 6:

A gyroscope which suddenly lost calibration or is malfunctioning for some other reason, resulting in

1) higher energy consumption (my battery is down within 5 hours compared to 24hours before) and

2) pop-up of the "Undo Typing" window every 4-5 seconds as soon as the keyboard is active

I did not find any compass calibration option and also the updating of the iOS (10.1.1.) did not help.

any ideas?

I too am facing same issue since iOS 10.1 upgrade. Compass is stuck and gyroscope is disoriented resulting message screen turning in landscape mode and camera pics too coming in landscape mode. If I lock screen rotate then camera pics are coming upside down. Aside this, even after replacing battery, it drains completely in 6 hours in standby mode. Apple has messed up with iphone with 10.1 upgrade.

Same here.

First I've noticed the battery drainage and thought I should change it. But I see that gyro is dead, calculator is on scientific mode unless I lock screen rotation, the browser, Skype and other apps are in landscape...

Can anyone tell us if it's a hardware or a software problem? And how to solve it?

P.S.

I have the exact same issue!

To be honest I'm surprised seeing someone had a same issue... Battery drainage then gyroscope and landscape orientation.

Have you solved the problem? I've tried all I could do (hard restart, full reset) but nothing solved the problem. Perhaps it's hardware issues?

I was experiencing the same problem, shake to undo kept trying to erase things, landcape mode activated in apps even when phone was vertical, battery drained from 100% in a matter of four or five hours. Apple store said the compass was malfunctioning, and they said I needed to buy a new phone, that it could not be repaired. Seems like a common problem, wondering whether Apple will offer to replace or repair at some point.

I have exactly all the same issues as wyssda after having updated to 13.3.2. At least it seemed to occur after the update.

Any solution? I read below (soulwax74) about water infiltration ... is that really the problem?

Thanks.
