I am new to pages and need to write a paper for school and the professor wants it sent in RTF file. How
do I do that?

Use Pages 4 instead of Pages 5, or write your paper with TextEdit (or Word or OpenOffice) instead of Pages.
…or LibreOffice [free].
In fact almost anything other than Pages 5.2.2.
