Slow Finder on iMac running OS 10.8.5

Hey Apple gurus!

I have a problem with my iMac running OS 10.8.5. It started from nowhere. All the software is running absolutely fine but as soon as I get to a finder and trying to open a folder and/or move between files in a folder within the finder or click a preview, a movie or a photo, it takes 10-15 seconds for a computer to "wake up". It just spinning until it finally catches is up and eventually it does what I want. Than I can browse in the finder between files with no problem until I pause for few minutes and when I am trying to navigate through folders again the same "wake up" problem. Its very annoying and really slows me down. I went through Apple utilities few times, I thought maybe its going to fix the problem, but it made no difference. I thought maybe its my USB devices and disconnected them all but still the same problem. Any suggestions how to fix it.

Thanks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

A Disk Utility, repair disk permissions and verify and repair disk. Force Quit helps but only for sometime than it comes back. I didn't try SMC and PRAM resets (no idea what it is) and didn't restart in Safe Mode to clear the caches. Where I can find information how to do it?

To learn how to do a SMC and PRAM resets, click the link I provided in my first post.

To restart in Safe Mode, hold down the Shift Key when you hear the startup tone until a progress bar appears. After it has fully booted, restart the computer normally and test.

I am having the same problem. Finder actions are either responding really super slow or just incorrectly. For example, I created a folder and it took forever to highlight the area where I name the folder. As I was typing, I noticed the text was appearing not under the folder but rather on a different part of the screen about 7" from where the folder was. Something is obviously corrupted, but I reinstalled the system software about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, you lost me after you said to clear the logs. How do you paste in an action like open a window into the console? And what is the end result?
