I think that I paid even less than that but i obviously don't have a receipt to check. Of course, you're up at Exit 18 while I'm down at Exit 5 and that makes a big difference.

The irony is I have a plug-in hybrid. But given the cost of electricity in NJ vs the cost of gas, it's cheaper to put gas in the car than to charge the battery using the plug-in feature.

The station in my neighborhood is $2.05 but, near work, 30 blocks away, $1.85. Both were Sunoco.

Let's be honest. Gasoline is the ONLY thing that's inexpensive in NJ. Don't even get me started about property tax.

My electrician housemate and I were just talking about the relative costs of electric vs gas vehicles this evening. I'll have to pass on that tidbit to him.

Feb 14, 2016 5:42 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby Philly_Phan,Again being somewhat anal about semantics, you're talking about gasoline. Gas is somewhat inexpensive in New Jersey and the comparison of gas heat vs. electric heat is is almost a joke. No sane person would choose electric heat in NJ. Tell the electrician that I paid $0.17/kwh for electricity last month and $0.61/therm for gas. Both, of course, are a sliding scale based on volume but those figures are the net result. By the way, it takes 29.3kwh to produce the same energy as is produced by one therm!

There are neither of those anywhere near where I live. I don't go out of my way to buy gas. I don't drive enough to justify driving for miles to safe a few cents.

Yes, dear, I know.
There are very few gasoline stations in my part of the city. So, pretty much, big name brand or drive a number of miles.
My (slightly crazy) brother carries a can of gasoline so that, if he doesn't make it to the much cheaper gasoline station he knows is just a little further before he runs dry, he can fill up. I've always wondered what the extra weight over time does to the couple of pennies per gallon savings.

Feb 14, 2016 7:19 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby Philly_Phan,You might tell him that gasoline goes stale in a month or two and could damage the engine (even if authorized).
Also, I'm not certain but I believe that it's illegal (safety).

This is the man who won't wear seat belts because the government tells him he has to. If they didn't, he'd probably wear them.
