Health kit: Remove phone as datasource for steps

I've got a 6 plus and have just got jawbones UP update to allow healthkit integration. I've set it up as a datasource for steps.

Problem is when the data from UP is not available, ie i've quit the UP app or whatever, the phone's motion processor starts logging steps. Next time I sync my UP band, those steps come across too and I get a double count.

I'd like to be able to turn off the iphone as a source for the steps data completely but can't see where to do this.

Anyone else have any luck doing it?

Cheers

I am having the same problem using a Polar Loop with my iPhone 5S.

The prioritising function doesn't work as the iPhone continuously adds steps for a certain period of time (a couple of minutes) whereas the Polar Flow app, which communicates with the Polar Loop activity tracker only syncs only when you command it to.
I think this shouldn't be a problem if the Polar Flow app also gives a time period to the synced data, because then the Health app will probably recognise that for a certain period of time there are multiple data sources and it will prioritise using the priority list.
However, the Polar Flow app doesn't define a time period for the synced steps (it does, but just 1 second at the time of the sync).

I think this is the main problem with tracking with both iPhone and a Polar Loop, resulting in double counted steps. Which is, I think, a problem with the Polar Flow app.

The double counting can be solved by:

  • Changing the Motion & Fitness Privacy settings (in iPhone settings) so the internal iPhone motion sensor may not write data to the Health app. Disadvantage is that this also prevents other data apart from steps to not be synced, like walking and running distance and stairs climbed etc.
  • Delete the step data provided by iPhone manually in the Health app, as suggested by Barry. This is tedious.

In my opinion, these workarounds are not satisfying. Ultimately you do want the iPhone to count steps in case you forget or choose not to wear you activity tracker.

I will try to contact the Polar Flow team, to hear what they say about the problem.

I have my health working with the jawbone now, after following the instructions here.

I can track the steps an sleep, but in the chart i can see just the current day, it doesn't show the past days.

For sleep i can see them if i go to show all data it show all data, but on dashboard just see the current day.

For steps if i go to show all data, i just show the current day, the same in the dashboard.

Any idea?

I also had set the witthing scales, and the dashboard is working normal for body weight.

That is, what I just have received from Jawbone support:

Thanks for the response back and the clarification on the case. If the steps are accurate on the JAWBONE UP application and it appears that there is an internal issue with healthkit, we do recommend that you reach out to the Apple support team on this issue. If you've uninstalled and reinstalled the UP app and powercycled your iOS device, please see this link here as a starting point for resolution:

https://developer.apple.com/healthkit/

There should be an area there where you can reach out for support on this issue. I apologize that I don't have greater trouble shooting steps for you in this area. Please keep us posted as to what they recommend and if that in fact clears the issue up. Our tech support team would love to hear the feedback on this.

I Will try find further info about that in this link, but I don't think it's a problem with the Health App, but with jawbone.

Seems like other fitness devices works well, have find anything so far?

what is you current configuration, did u also disabled the default iPhone motion for step counting? It's really strange because run keeper and my scale is working just fine with the Health and jawbone just ***** on that. I am really thinking about buying another brand, this response they gave to you sou ridiculous.

cheers.

Sounds good, keep us posted please.

Just for information, yesterday I removed the up turned the Iphone motion on, installed UP again and linked with Health.

Now I have in UP 133 steps and in Health App 399, and I looked the logs, Up is sending the data three times, even when the value is 0.

I don't know if this can help you.

Thanks for into this issue.

I can confirm the similar issue for the Xiaomi Mi Band 1s with their "Mi Fit" app. The problem I see is that the "priority" thing is working properly only when (if) both devices are updating the step count simultaneously. However, the Mi Band is updating the step count roughly once per hour, while the iPhone is tracking all the steps in between "live". So in the end the numbers are quite different.

The "simple fix" with priority, suggested by someone, doesn't really work. I have dragged the Mi Fit app to the 1st place in "Share Data", but when I go to "All recorded data" and tap on one of the updates of Mi Fit, it says that the step data has been added to Health more than one hour later than it was actually received, while you can see that iPhone itself is counting and recording data from his own sensor in between. Mi Fit is updating the steps around once in an hour.
