Q: IPHONE 6 This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably

I have the IPhone 6.  Bought it last Saturday,Just updated it to the newest 8.0.2 software Friday Sept 26th. No Problems until today, Monday Sept. 29th when Im getting this error .

It started this afternoon and, no i did not and do not have it plugged in. It was charged this morning and was at 57% battery this afternoon when the problem started.

Now I get this messege that keeps poping up over and over "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iphone"

It keeps popping up and i dont have ANYTHING plugged into it.

I called Verizon because thats who i bought it from who put me thru second line for help.

After a bunch of BS and telling me that they have had problems with chargers because of the amplified voltage and wrong plug being sent out  which sounds like bull to me because he said the new iphones have a different head on the plug, not the phone side but the end that has the usb connection and goes to the ac outlet, which dont make a lot of sense when you can also plug them into a usb port. I looked at different iphone plugs from the 4s, the 5 and the 6,and they all show the same input and output voltages and amps. Basically nothing that has to do with my problem i am having

Anyway at this point now they are saying something may have happened with the new software when i  download it last friday.

So now they had me backup my phone to itunes, and restore the iphone from itunes.

When you do this, itunes will automatically download the new version software, which seems to be taking a long time to download.

I will try to post results later to see if this works......

iPhone 6, iOS 8, software 8.0.2

Over all this **** thing won't stop vibrating while I keep thing the cables and woke up my neighbors. This in 100% my last apple device. Disgraceful

Sounds like a faulty charging port. Take it in for servicing.

    Cheers

I read all of this and got me to thinking.  So I turned off my phone.  Then I took a plastic coffee stirrer and wrapped a little scotch tape around the end and stuck it into the port and out came a ton of charred lint.  I repeated a few times with new tape and got the port pretty cleaned out.  Now all of my charging cables work and the error does not pop up anymore,  The lint must have been causing an arc of some sort which was triggering the fault message.  It was also preventing a solid connection with the cable.  You learn something new every day....

For some reason, the lightning port seems to suck in pocket lint. I'd say that cleaning the port fixes about 80% of charging problems.

    Glad you got yours working!

My iPhone 6s started giving the same message and after going through this thread...I decided to check the charging port...and there was lint.

Once I removed the lint, I was able to charge the device.

Thanks!! I powered off my iPhone and removed some lint using a pin. After lint removal the 3rd party cable worked fine.

Apple won't replace charging port according to tech I saw with same problem on my phone. That or Apple is not training techs correctly. Terrible experiences.

I have this problem too and so frustrated. It's frozen while I am on a conference call. Looks like I have to let the battery drain before I can attempt to restart after charging. I am convinced this has to do with the recent update.
