i have an old mac working with OSX 10.5.8. Everything has loaded to my icloud from my phone but my photos...help!

No, iCloud requires OS X 10.7 or later.
but then why do the other features (other than photo sharing, that is) work?
You can set up an iCloud email account in earlier versions, which means you can get Mail, Contacts and Calendars from iCloud email.
Since it seems you need proof, see: System requirements for iCloud.
