Not to disagree with Briansyddall, I always use iTunes to update my devices. I have a 5S and did not experience any issues with iOS8 updates.

Sep 30, 2014 10:32 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by The hatter,There were/are some issues with Windows (PC) and iPhone. Not sure if that is past but there was an update on Windows for iCloud which was one issue also.
As long as: there is more than enough free space for the download/install/update (which with file compression may seem like a lot of wasted space), and you have backup - either should be fine.
