Some have reported that that device is unlocked. The only other issues that you will experience is it probably will not work with the LTE bands in the UK, and the warranty is only good in the US. If you have any issues, you will have to bring it back to the US for service. Apple does not accept international shipments, and Apple UK will not handle the device either.

Hello Planetpeckham, yes I did buy iPhone 6 from US. It was a USA model too (i.e. 1549 CDMA rather than 1586 which is available in UK) and the great news is, it worid perfectly fine. In fact I am typing this msg from the phone I bought from US. It has no issues with 2G & 3G as I have tried both. i also have tried various sim cards (Vodafone, O2 and giffgaff) and they all work. I have not had chance to try 4G but I was told by two different O2 store managers that all frequencies these days are compatible with all new phones and if my phone gets 3G without problem then I will get 4G with no issues. I bought thile phone from BestBuy on Verizon network (unlocked). I hope this helps.

The model sold in the UK is the A1586(GSM )

That is not the model sold for use on T-Mobile in the US ,hence it will not work on 4G in Europe

As long as the reports are correct ( who knows) the T-mobile seems to work with other sims outside the US but ONLY on 3G

Why would you want to buy a leading edge iPhone and not be able to use 4G especially as 4G is starting to get wider coverage in UK

Ref above

If Apple could produce an iPhone that covered 4G worldwide why would they actually have to make 2 different models

The chip is just not yet available to give a single WW model for 4G

Chris

yes

The UK VAT is 20% and is payable + duty on all items imported over personal allowance and penalty for not declaring is a fine and confiscation

In EU all prices include VAT and unless where the sale is trade only ( VAT accounting 😉safely ignored for normal purposes ) and therefore all prices are shown as VAT inc ,unlike the States

Okay, thanks. So what would he have to pay on the phone, with that value? Like you, I just question if it is worth it. And the example by hirenamin2002 is different because he purchased the Verizon device, which while it has the GSM side unlocked, it certainly would not work with the UK LTE network, since it is a North American device. I gotta get to work. I'll continue this later.

Thanks for getting back to me Hirenamin, I appreciate it.

Glad to hear you're happy with your purchase. It's a pity that you haven't had a chance to try 4G for yourself , it would be really interesting to know if what the 02 managers say works in the real world!

Anyone else out there with actual user experience of 4G from a USA iphone working with a UK sim?

Thanks for your response Peter

I wouldn't, which is why I'm asking if anyone has 1st hand experience of trying it.

Beats me! The reason I'm curious is my friend has an iphone 5s purchased from an Apple Store in the US which works perfectly on 3G, 4G, etc. using a Tesco sim in the UK. Just wondering if the 6 (which I've read is more LTE 'versatile' - although I could be mistaken) can do the same.

To reiterate, has anyone out there actually brought back a US iphone 6 and found that it works (or does not work) with 4G?

Cheers!

Hello, just to let you know that I have just tried Vodafone 4G SIM card in my iPhone 6 bought from US and as I expecited it works perfect. I tested download speed using one of the apps and it showed 23.5 mbps dowoad speed and 5.7 Mbps upload speed.... So in my opinion, you are good to go... All aspects of phone bought from US works in UK.... Good luck
