I have gotten this error message for the past few updates (around iOS 8 update time) on all of my devices. It seems after the update downloads I sign into my device and then the update begins to install that is when the error message comes up. All of the updates update fine though and no real issues have come up because of it. Sounds as though yours is not because of an update, so I'm sorry this is happening and hope you find a fix.

Same for me. I first saw it I believe with 8.0 or 8.0.2; and then again today with 8.1. After it happened, I entered the pass code on the phone, and the phone had updated properly to 8.1; I had to unplug it from the computer and then plug it back in (I only do cable syncs, not wifi). And it all seemed to be updated properly, although who knows if it's connected to all the assorted problems I've had with 8.x (photos odd orientation, play counts not updating, playlists not syncing, music disappearing, album art missing, and so on).

It's not a bug, it's a windows issue. In Windows Device Manager select the iphone driver and press 'delete', then 'ok'. Make sure itunes is closed then run the installer again, this time select 'repair if prompted; otherwise the software driver will be installed once the iphone is connected and will install a new driver. Once complete ,your iphone will now be recognised and you should be able to sync.

Thanks for the response - I failed to mention that I'm on a mac - Yosemite 10.10.2

I get the update ok but I just wonder if there is something I'm missing if I get this error. The phone is constantly slow to respond to apps and to the touch. I wait about 1 min for Waze to kick in and then another 30 sec for the map. Very similar in other apps. I'm on the 6+.

I just want Steve back....it was so tight when he was running the ship...
