Is the DVD burner on an   imac intel core 17 an HD burner or just SD?

If I get an HD DVD will it burn and playback HD or just SD?

I just burned a disc of HD a video piece that was HD 1920x1080 29.97 and had to burn it at 16x9 SD so it looks like crap on an HD tv.

any advice?

thx

HD...but not the format of HD that is widely supported. It's HD DVD...only discontinued Toshiba HD DVD players, other macs with these drives, and XBOX 360 game systems play them. HD DVD lost the war to BluRay.  You'll need to get a BluRay burner to burn a high def disk that's supported.

If you have FCP 7 or FCP X you can burn AVCHD discs.

These are burned on normal cheap DVDs, are Blu-ray quality and play on most BD players.

The only downside is that you can only get about 40 minutes  of full quality on a DVD but you can reduce the bit rate if you need longer and it will still be better than SD.
