Nov 19, 2014 1:57 PM in response to VinceCharmingby metaweb,iPad 3s are all having this issue too. Not just iPad 2s. Of course Apple knows about it. If they wanted things to work correctly, they'd fix it with an update or allow users to downgrade to iOS 7. So, the only 2 possible answers are that Apple doesn't know how to fix the problem or it's forced obsolesence.
UPDATE: After installing the 8.1.1 update released on Nov 18th, I am happy to say that my iPad 3 no longer seems to be randomly rebooting. I have been using the iPad all day without any limiting events. So, in my case, the 8.1.1 update has restored my iPad 3 to being a useful tool once again. I do, however, feel that it took Apple too long to get this fix out .. especially since such a large number of users were having severe issues with iPad 2s and 3s after iOS 8.

Nov 20, 2014 4:02 AM in response to VinceCharmingby VinceCharming,Well sent an email off to the "Senior Technical Specialist" at Apple who's dealing with my case explaining that after the iPad 2 crashed when I attempted to log into the "Pinterest" App that after spending time in a reboot lopp it is now displaying the "Connect to iTunes" image on the screen, am now awaiting an email/response as can't really spend another 1.5hr on the phone while at work trying to resolve it.
I will be requesting that I be called after 5:30pm if they wish to discuss over the phone, I have also requested that they provide me with the information that the Senior Engineers where able to ascertain from the crash logs as I am still waiting for this information, at present the only information they have provided me with from the engineer is the following :
The engineer came back to me yesterday but I was off the office, telling me to ask you to do the update.
The update is meant for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, for the performance issue. So it should resolve your issue.
Obviously this has not resolved my problem, so surely with the crash logs that I have provided Apple with they should be able to see what is the route problem, and how is an iPad continually crashing when opening apps and going into a reboot loop a performance issue ?Apple please get your fingers out of your ears and your head out of the sand and start listening to your customers and do something about this . .

UPDATE Nov 20: Well, I spoke too soon. Last night my iPad 3 returned to its usual freezing and random rebooting that surfaced after iOS8 was installed. Also, multitouch gestures do not work .... so, in the end, 8.1.1 update did not resolve any of the annoying iOS8 issues with iPads. I guess the update was really for other reasons, as surely Apple tested the update before release and knew that random rebooting and disabled multitouch gestures are now permanent features of non-Air iPads. This worries me about purchasing an iPad Air 2, since now I feel based on experience that it will have similar issues when iOS9, 10 etc are released. I respect Apple, and I´m hoping that the feeling is mutual. Another fix? It seems that the priority is on iOS8 for iPhone, and attention to iPad is faltering. Hope they turn that around or the tablet market for Apple will start to suffer. Still love Apple!

Nov 20, 2014 7:29 AM in response to VinceCharmingby metaweb,Mine has returned to its freezing, crashing, and random rebooting as well... along with no multitouch gesturing. No more updating for me unless Apple specifically says, "This update is to fix bugs associated with random freezing and rebooting ,,, and restores multitouch gesturing,"

Nov 20, 2014 8:55 AM in response to metawebby VinceCharming,I'm at my wits end with this, like a good little sheep I've followed all of Apple Technical Support/Genius's advice an yet here we are 2 months after the release of iOS 8 and I still have a non functioning iPad 2.
All Apple seem to be doing is paying us Lip Service - Telling us what they want us to hear . .
If I'd taken the advice of their Apple Store Manager and their Genius I would have been expected to buy a replacement iPad due to a "Hardware Fault", however as it goes' it seems that all of us are having the same problems or very similar problems at the very least.
If this isn't resolved soon I will be continuing this conversation via the Courts, because like any sane person (if you can call any of us sane for spending the amount we spend with Apple for their devices) I have had enough and am presently "NOT A HAPPY BUNNY"

Nov 22, 2014 3:46 AM in response to VinceCharmingby mama.yeen, how to get in touch with the "Senior Technical Specialist"?
-
Nov 22, 2014 12:21 PM in response to mama.yeenby Pete Kroner,I just had a good conversation with an Apple tech(wait time was about one hour).
I explained that after going to 8.1.1 on my iPad 3 it was crashing and rebooting itself this morning while it sat on a nearby table.
I explained that when I went into Apple Communities and logged in I could not use the New or Reply buttons on the screen yet "activity, content, people and search buttons continue to work. Strange?
He kept cutting out on my conversation and WE thought it was a WiFi problem..... maybe this new IOS has a WiFi connection problem.
He said they are aware of the problem but have, as yet, no fix.
The Communities works very well on my iMac apparently which I'm on now.... so that part is obviously a IOS 8 problem.

Nov 23, 2014 10:10 PM in response to VinceCharmingby dtsai415,I have an iPad Mini and after updating to iOS 8.0 my iPad kept crashing after 10 minutes or at random times rebooting over and over again. When the update for 8.1.1 came out I updated it quickly hoping that it would fix the issue, no luck! After some experimenting I think I solved the issue as my iPad has been stable for the entire day. Might be worth a try for you and others having the same problem. In Settings > General > Side Switch make sure you select Lock Rotation and lock the screen rotation on the side of your device. I'm guessing that the new OS isn't compatible with the internal gyroscope on "older" devices thus it crashes. Hope this works for you guys!

Nov 24, 2014 6:05 AM in response to mama.yeenby VinceCharming,I googled "Apple CEO Directors email addresses" and used the results to send an email to all of them explaining that since updating to iOS 8 my iPad was now useless and so on and so on.
Shortly there after I had a communication from a EMIA at Apple who then got a "Senior Technical Specialist" to contact me (though he's been about as much help as a Genius Bar staff member).
I've now emailed the EMIA and the Senior Tech Specialist asking for answers, as if that's going to do me any good . .
Good Luck, but not holding much hope out for us, as Apple appear to just be sticking their head in the sand and just waiting until they have another iOS 8 update that will fix the issues . . . at which point it will have been 3 months probably since I had a working iPad.

Nov 24, 2014 6:42 AM in response to VinceCharmingby metaweb,I hope they do code a fix, very frustrating. Every time I try to update
apps, my iPad3 freezes then reboots. Still no multitouch gestures .... and
random rebooting here and there. I am still able to use my iPad, but I fear
that it will not be fit for resale should I ever decide to upgrade.
Perhaps that's the objective; I don't really believe that but if Apple
doesn't get a fix out soon, people are going to grab onto any conspiracy
theory at hand .... and rightfully so. Still love Apple though .... even
during these trying times with the iPads.

Nov 24, 2014 10:17 AM in response to metawebby Pete Kroner,I have been on line with an Apple Tech and also following this problem in Communities. I do not believe Apple is dragging their feet with this one BUT I do believe that whatever is going on simply is "beyond" their techs capabilities of handling at this point. Apple staff I have talked with ALL know of the problem yet ALL have expressed their frustration with not finding a fix.
For me it has been the first problem of significance which I have run into on the iPad 3. All I can do is wait.

Nov 24, 2014 11:12 AM in response to VinceCharmingby dtsai415,Did you guys try this from my earlier post?
In Settings > General > Side Switch make sure you select Lock Rotation and lock the screen rotation on the side of your device. I'm guessing that the new OS isn't compatible with the internal gyroscope on "older" devices thus it crashes. Hope this works for you guys!

Nov 25, 2014 4:42 AM in response to Pete Kronerby VinceCharming,You may be right Apple may well not be dragging their feet, but at the end of the day they should have done a bit more extensive testing on the iOS before releasing it, that way they might have noticed these issues before the poor end users (us) were left with iPad's/iphone's etc that are now nothing more than very expensive paperweights.
I will tell you were I know they are definitely dragging their feet ;
Admitting that they are at fault !
Keeping their customers who have complained up to date and in the loop for two !
And Keeping their customers waiting until another update comes out in the vain hope that this resolved the issues . . .
Its now 2 months since Apple released iOS8, there's been 4 updates and still people are having issue's and the only response I've had off Apple so far has been ;
An Apple Genius in store telling me "Its a hardware fault" and all he did was do everything I'd already done, didn't run any diagnositcs, didn't take and review any of the crash/stack logs, just told me it was broken and I could buy a new one.
An Apple Senior Technical Specialist ring me to take crash/istack logs for review (this was only after I'd sent an email to Mark Rogers Apple's UK Managing Director, no one else seemed interested and wanted ownership/responsibility)
The same Senior Technical Specialist not getting back to me with any information and me having to contact them on the day the latest update was released to find out whether they had been able to ascertain what the problem was i.e "Was it a hardware fault ? or was it the iOS?". The Senior Technical Specialist just responded with "As you may know, the iOS 8.1.1 is available and this update should resolve your issue." however as I'm still writing on this post, you'll guess it hasn't resolved my issue.
I've contacted both the EMIA Rep and the Senior Technical Specialist asking again what the initial Crash/Stack Logs show and to provide me with a solution instead of just stringing me along till the next update in the vain hope that this will fix the issue.
This Apple has left a very bitter taste in my mouth
