Mar 23, 2015 2:17 AM in response to r3g1uzby VinceCharming,r3G1uz,
I agree a product that costs of £500 should be expected to last more than 2 years, even if it is electronics, as long as the product is looked after, I look after nurmerous electronic devices in my role as a Systems Admin and we don't have problems with electronics failing after 2 years, unless of course they've been mistreated or there is an inherent problem with them.
I'm still emailing my Apple Customer Support advisor, but as stated previously Apple have said my case is now closed and are continuing to ignore my emails, only time I get a response is when his Out of Office is on.

Mar 31, 2015 8:24 AM in response to VinceCharmingby VinceCharming,Well sent another email to Support as is my daily ritual now asking the same questions and hoping for an answer, but alas thus far no reply, still being ignored.
Though my emails are being ignored it seems my blog posts about the issues' I've had and my continuing efforts to get some sort of answer from Apple do seem to be getting read by people with Apple assigned IP Ranges, thus far well over 30 separate Apple IP Addresses have now visited my blog, so perhaps I'm not being that ignored after all.
I'll update with any further news as and when it happens.
Thanks for reading especially to those who have previously posted supportive comments

Apr 4, 2015 6:18 AM in response to VinceCharmingby colinb07958,I Have the iPad 4 and it was fine but then updated to latest ios 1.8.2 I think it is. Now when I am on the iPad randomly it just turns itself off then the apple logo come on then it turn on again. Really annoys me.
i Am out of the warranty and not sure I want the pain going to Apple store.
theoption is to get a iPad mini 2 from John Lewis £280 and John Lewis doing a 3 year warranty so at least if that goes wrong if I update it then I a covered.

Apr 9, 2015 2:04 AM in response to colinb07958by VinceCharming,Even if its Out of Warranty, I'd still visit the Apple store with it, as there is the possibility they may just swap it out FOC, as this appears to have happened to other iPad owners on occasion, but don't hold me to it, as unfortunately I wasn't one of the lucky ones.
Also at least then they can at have a look at it for you, it may turn out it's a known issue, but either way under the Sales of Goods Act 1979 you do have certain rights re:
All goods must be :
- As described
- Of satisfactory quality and
- fit for purpose
My argument on this would be that the product is in excess of £300-£500 dependant on what model you purchased and for that price you expect a product to at least last longer than 2-3 years if used correctly, also the iPad is at the end of the day a multipurpose device used for numerous tasks that require handling etc, so you would expect it to be tough enough to handle day to day use.
Anyway give it a try, you never know what might happen, at the most you may get a FOC replacement, at the worst you'll have wasted 1/2hr of your day.
Let me know how you get on, it'll be interesting to hear

Apr 16, 2015 7:41 AM in response to VinceCharmingby Ken Haggerty,I'm curious, Mr. Charming; have you been attempting to apply iOS 8 upgrades as they become available, with the hope that in one of them there might be a remedy? I'm wondering specifically about the most recent 8.3. It's alleged to fix a number of unspecified problems.

Apr 21, 2015 8:09 AM in response to Ken Haggertyby VinceCharming,Ken,
I haven't as Apple eventually informed me only after I had made/sent numerous emails/tweets/request to Apple Support/Tim Cook/other various heads of Dept at Apple and after again numerous telephone conversations requesting what exactly was wrong with my iPad 2 that they told me it was a hardware fault.
Apparently its a memory module issue or so they tell me, which will cost £206.44 to repair, this being the standard out of warranty service charge, though this can occasionally be waived from what I've been told by others with similar issues, though this just depends on who you speak to/see when you take the iPad 2's in.
I am still actually awaiting a response from Apple on this particular issue as I'm trying to find out why some people pay are asked to pay this charge and others aren't, but it appears Apple are as previously mentioned classing this Support Case closed.
Though I do still send Apple Support an email everyday asking them the question in the vain hope that they might answer . .
I'll let you know if they ever do

Apr 21, 2015 10:04 AM in response to VinceCharmingby DukeEdgar,I have an interesting addition to this discussion.. My iPad Air (iOS 8.3) has this exact same problem (random "soft" restarts with the black screen and white apple logo – although the "running" app reappears after each of them as if the black screen is just an overlay). I then restored a backup from this iPad to another one (an iPad mini 2, also on iOS 8.3) that did not have this problem at all with the previous apps/apple ID that were installed on it. And presto, the black screen now appears there as well. When I put back the "original" backup on there, the problem disappears.
So, yeah, to me it seems that is either a rogue app or a combination of such an app with the A7 chip. Too bad I cannot verify with an A8X...

Apr 22, 2015 1:20 AM in response to DukeEdgarby VinceCharming,Have you "Reached Out to Apple Support" as they say to see if they can come up with a solution/reason why it's doing this ?
If you do please let me know the outcome, it will be interesting to hear what your fault's diagnosed as.

Apr 22, 2015 7:19 AM in response to VinceCharmingby Ken Haggerty,Mr. Charming:
I figured, since you have nothing to lose as your iPad is so dysfunctional, that you may have tried the newer of the updates, just to see what might happen. The latest 8.3 is purported to be an aggressive bug fixer that might include a "secret" solution. I don't believe for a second that it's malfunctioning hardware in your, or most of the effected devices.

Apr 23, 2015 4:21 AM in response to Ken Haggertyby VinceCharming,Ken,
I'll give it a try this evening, just for the **** of it.
But this was the response from Cupertino relating to my problem in the case files :
This failure is one that would have been covered if the device had failed within warranty, and is probably not anything that that customer did, although drops or other impacts could be a factor as they could with any hardware failure. I think we should also bear in mind that this iPad is 3.75 years old, and while Apple products do generally keep going
and going, unfortunately that’s not always the case.
So its covered by their Warranty, but apparently they don't seem to think that the Sales of Goods Act covers it.
I'll let you know how the update goes

Apr 24, 2015 4:34 AM in response to Ken Haggertyby VinceCharming,Ken,
as suspected after numerous attempts to update/restore etc it kept crashing out with various different error codes and eventually went into Panic Log screen.
Gave up after 2 hours of failures.

Apr 24, 2015 6:57 AM in response to VinceCharmingby Ken Haggerty,What a shame. I was hoping that there might be a remedy for us in v8.3. It's depressing. Sorry you wasted so much time on my suggestion. I was really pulling for you.
