IOS 8 stopped Ipad2 (Wifi GSM) working

I get prompted in iTunes that iPad in recovery mode .. every time I try to recover i just get waiting for iPad message.

The iPad show the apple logo and the upload bar but nothing seems to upload to the iPad, bar remains grey.

Have tried doing recovery via latest iTunes on both PC and iMac all with same result. The iPad will not receive data required.

How can IOS 8 knock out my iPad? Anyone have any ideas on if fixable?
