iPhone 6 noise reduction and sharpening excessive

Anyone else notice that the iPhone 6 noise reduction and sharpening is super excessive especially under lower light conditions? Everything looks water-painted when you go closer and details are definitely lost. Bright outdoor shots are fine it seems but anything shot at even 100 ISO etc. looks pretty bad. I don't think this is device specific because my wife/I have the same phone and there's complaints on other forums/sites.

Is this something that Apple has addressed in the past with software updates etc.? My wife is so frustrated (she's a pro photographer) to the point she wants to go back to the 5S. 😟

I purchased an iPhone 6 on 12.26.14 and returned it today (12.27.14). I was aghast at the insane heavy-handedness of the noise reduction. I, too, use my camera for photographic purposes related to my work and the watercolor effect was unbearable. I will be going back to the 5 and upgrading to the 5s when the time comes. I am REALLY hoping Apple reconsiders this decision. The images from my 6 were absolutely horrible. I am so disappointed.

Images show side by side iPhone 5 versus iPhone 6.
