Importing Contacts from Google/Android

So I just got a new iPhone after being on Android. I had previously kept all contacts with my Google/Gmail acct. When I added my Gmail account through the Mail app, it looks like all my Google contacts came in. So I don't really know where exactly my contacts are.

Was this a one time import into iOS? Or is iOS in sync with my Google contacts? If I add a contact in Gmail - as long as iOS has a gmail account to look at - will that appear on my iPhone?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Hi amcgov,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like your contacts are stored on Gmail. Your contacts come over when you set up your Gmail account on the device and turn Contact syncing on. Please read over the following article for further information.

iOS: Syncing with Google Contacts

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Google.
  2. Enter the required information in the fields.
  3. Make sure Contacts is on.

Cheers,

Joe
