Apr 10, 2015 12:24 PM in response to w.j.m.by The Art Of Sound,Its certainly worth a try though Repair Permissions isn't the fix all for certain types of permissions issues, that some people think.....
But, no harm in trying.....
This is why you shouldn't normally just move important files around in OS X unless you know what you are doing.....
I apologize if that comment came across harsher than i intended.... It was more a general comment for anyone reading this thread than one specifically directed at you.... as so often people move files around in OS X (or worse still, delete them) without realizing the possible consequences of doing so... It's mainly because they are ex windows users and the two OS's behave very differently in regards to files, permissions and so on...
Anyhow.. just wanted to apologize in case my comment came across in a manner I didn't intend!
Cheers..

. . . and your wonderful Soundcloud page is keeping me sane while I lose another day to trouble shooting - so you've more than earned the right to say whatever you want!

Rats.... That's a shame but it's not unusual....

Thanks
I'm at a bit of a loss how to fix this issue for you other than to somehow switch to a different User Account when you need to run LPX (...and thats a really annoying workaround to use..)
I have to go into the studio for a few hours.. but I'll give this some more thought and see if i can work out how to discver which file or files have incorrect permissions.. Fixing them is easy.. BatCHmod will do that in a heartbeat...
http://www.lagentesoft.com/batchmod/
It's identifying which files need to be fixed is the problem... because if you fix the wrong files, that can lead to all kinds of weird issues down the road...
One step I'd try though is to manually fix permissions for the Logic Pro X app itself.... using BatCHmod...
Run it and then using the file selector inside it.. choose Logic pro X app from the applications folder...
Now set up Batchmod exactly as shown in this screenshot.... (Be real careful and double check everything....)
Now click on Apply and wait a while.. about a minute,....
Now close Batchmod, restart your Mac and test out LPX again...
Fingers crossed!

Apr 10, 2015 1:42 PM in response to The Art Of Soundby w.j.m.,Unfortunately the BatchMod on LPX.app did not work either.
I'm actually starting to like the idea of migrating to a new user account. The account I'm on now has followed me around since my first MBP and the baggage accumulated as I moved from OS to OS and computer to computer over the years is considerable. Perhaps it's time to migrate over the essentials that I need to a new user account and (after a thorough backup on a couple of external hard drives) bid farewell to this old one . . .
Thanks again for all your help. If you do think of anything else feel free to make further suggestions.
Cheers,

Well, Batchmod was worth a try... It must be another user lib or plist...that is messed up in that case.. and those are really tricky to identify.
So....
Yes, I'd agree with the concept of moving over to a new User Account..We know it resolves your issue and its a 'quick and dirty' fix at this stage given the (unknown) alternatives...
I've had to do so once in the past when I was in a similar situation but with a different app... and it was pretty painless...
Please let us know how you get on.. and of course, if you get stuck.. post away!
Cheers..

Before you take steps to 'migrate' to a anew user account, consider this:
Since you clearly have 'issues' with your current account and LPX, and you were not able to find the preferences files in order to delete them, try using Digital Rebellion's Preferences Manager application.
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Quit LPX, then run the App. carefully selecting only LPX. This app will completely remove all LPX Preferences for you. Then try restarting LPX. You will need to reset all the Advanced Tools and other preferences ( Audio Devices etc.).
The Art Of Sound wrote:
The typical fix for weird issues like this is to delete both LPX's prefs and the CS file...
5 Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
6 If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Step 6 shows the wrong location for the .cs file It is in ~/Library/Preferences/ and not in a subfloder

It's interesting that you mentioned this CCT.. because originally, Apple's Logic Pro Troubleshooting instructions said the following.... (and still says it in the current LP8/9 Troubleshooting doc dated March 15th 2015)
6: If you have upgraded from Logic Pro 7, you may also need to remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Then in a previous Logic Pro X Troubleshooting document, which is from where I copy/pasted the test...this got changed to.....
6 If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
...and now in the new version (March 12th 2015) it does indeed say....
5: If you upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, also remove the "com.apple.logic.pro" file.
So I guess my copy/paste was from an incorrect version and thank you for highlighting that error for me.. Much appreciated as always...
Cheers..

Apr 11, 2015 1:44 PM in response to CCTMby w.j.m.,Thanks for the thought CCTM, but deleting the LPX plists with the Preference Manager app made no difference to my issue - nor was I really expecting it to as I don't believe my issue is plist related at this point. But I gave it a shot nonetheless.
I've embraced migrating over to a new user account. It's about time. Goodbye cobwebs!
What I'd really like to know is why my Apple ID can't decide what my password actually is. I changed it yesterday and now sometimes it'll login with the new password like it should, and at other times it will only accept the old password. I tried changing it again but to no avail. It's like a crap shoot now to log into iTunes, the App Store, these forums, etc. Yeesh.

Assuming you changed the password via the Apple websites page...
and you didn't do it any other way.....
If you have any other iOS devices or Macs make sure the password is changed on all of them..
On iOS devices simply go to settings / iCloud and it should ask you to enter your new password..
On Mavericks/ Yosemite Macs, it should do the same if you go to Sys prefs / iCloud...
For iTunes and the Mac App Store.. Sign out of the app, quit the app, restart Mac... relaunch each app and sign back in again...

Apr 12, 2015 9:24 PM in response to The Art Of Soundby w.j.m.,After much thought I decided not to completely delete my old User Account after migrating over to my new User Account. As much as I liked the idea of a fresh start I figured there was a good chance that completely deleting that old User could potentially create more problems then it would solve . . . but I did decide to delete a lot of the files in the old User Account. I didn't touch anything in the old User Account Library folder, but I got rid of a lot of files that piled up over the years (all safely backed-up onto a pair of external drives first). Once I got on a roll deleting stuff I also decided to go through my applications folder and delete all the old apps I don't use anymore - I use AppZapper for this. Once I felt I'd deleted all the dead wood I on a lark to fire up LPX one more time and wouldn't you know it but it just worked like charm. I have no idea what it was that I deleted that did the trick, but since deciding to keep my old User Account after all I've begun putting back some of the files I'd deleted (which I was planning on moving over to the new User Account anyway - like my DropBox folder, Pictures, Music, etc.), and periodically checking in with LPX - so far so good!

Apr 13, 2015 9:12 AM in response to w.j.m.by w.j.m.,Please forgive the terrible English in my message above. I wrote that very quickly whilst very tired and now I don't see a way to edit the many mistakes. Nevertheless I hope the gist of what I'm saying is comprehensible, (because the execution was reprehensible).
