Q: iOS 8.0.2 grayed out wifi on my iPhone 4s

This is ridiculous and I'm so furious. This incident may deter me from EVER purchasing another product from Apple ever again. The new software has disabled my wifi completely, and the button is grayed out. I tried all the possible solutions they pose on the support site, but nothing, of course, was successful. I know it is a software problem and the fact that I can't talk to anyone on the phone about it is  absolutely ridiculous. I'm not paying $20 for a software mistake on Apple's part. If there is anyone who knows how to fix this problem without having to wait for the next update, any help would be greatly appreciated.

After the Hairdryer Fix the phone worked fine, as I reported previously, but after Jailbreaking it,  I had a problem with the Boot Loop caused by one of the Tweaks and nothing worked to fix it, so I had to do a Restore in DFU mode but, as soon as I had restored it,  I was back to the same  problem  once again,  grayed out WiFi ) and the phone kept locking up.    I did the Hairdryer on the top of the phone for 5 minutes until it was hot to touch, immediately powered it off, waited 10 minutes for it to cool ( no not in the Freezer ) then I powered it up and everything is back to normal.

No 'might' about it.  It's a hardware issue.

I don't know what happened, but it started working again after the most recent upgrade via iTunes. I've been using my 4s as an iPod and the only way I could get my music on it was to connect to iTunes. Today I plugged it in and it updated and... Behold! My wifi and bluetooth work again perfectly.

Before this, I tried nearly everything I saw on this thread and nothing worked. I kept it updated hoping Apple would fix the issue. I stuck it in the freezer and put it under a blow dryer. Now out of the blue it starts working after an update, it must be a software thing. I don't know why Apple would take so long to fix a problem for an old phone though.

For the record, I usually update my phone, but lately I've been traveling a lot and didn't bother to connect it to my computer and I don't know when this particular update was released. I am guessing it might work for some of you, if you get the most recent update.

    I hope this helps.

Apple Support Article:  iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim - Apple Support

(Normally I add this to any thread that reports this issue that I come across, forgot to do so this time for some reason)

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Restart your iOS device.
    2. Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
    3. Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    4. Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

Step 4 recommends updating the iOS.  I'm glad to hear that it resolved your issue, partly because it shows that the official Apple Support article for this issue has useful and relevant information.

    Hellooo!!

I had the same problem like you. The wifi problem grayed out. But this problem is solved by Hair dryer technique. It is working perfectly for me since last 1 weak. I have updated ios 8.2 through my wifi.

    Thanx all

DON'T PUT YOUR PHONE IN THE FREEZER!  I tried this and the WIFI button did become active again - but WIFI never came back.  What's worse is my cellular antennae starting crapping out immediately after and I couldn't even send texts.  I had to bring in my phone for a complete replacement.
