My verizon.net account suddenly stopped working on my Mac Mail?

My verizon.net account suddenly stopped working on my Apple Mail client two weeks ago. It doesn't work on any device including iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, or Mac desktop. I've gone over the settings with Apple Genius Bar and with Verizon and they both blame the problem on each other. Has anyone else had this issue and do you know how to fix it? According to Verizon and Apple, my settings, including ports and username and passwords are all correct. But I keep getting an "authentication failed" error.

Here is a copy of the logs for my Mail account:

I had the same problem, right about the time that I installed IOS8 on my ipad. All of a sudden, my OSX Imac started asking for passwords left and right, from mail to itunes to icloud etc. I tried keychain first aid, and a whole bunch of different things to alleviate the situation, including phone call to verizon tech. I convinced a friend of mine to stop over with his chromebook to let me use it to set up my verizon email just to see whether it was a verizon problem, or a apple problem. webmail worked fine, by the way. before he came over, i tried setting up via webmail forwarding my verizon mail to my gmail account (which was working fine on my imac mail app by the way). the morning he was to come over for the experiment my mail app suddenly worked again as though it had never happened. I spent a good 6 hours in tech **** pulling my hair out.

Verizon kept returning "password incorrect" on both incoming and outgoing mail attempts

Only on my primary email account. All sub account email addy's worked fine (on the mail app)

Gmail worked fine (on the mail app)

Verizon tech said eveything was fine on their end

I created a new sub-account on verizon, wouldn't work, same password problems

FFor what it's worth, until everything suddenly started working again, I had deleted and recreated my account in the mail OS X app, as well as on my iOS mail app. No afftect. Also went on Verizon website, created a whole new sub account, thinking that I'd just have my primary account email forwarded to this new account, but, alas password issues with the new account. It should be worth noting that I had problems on both my imac and my iPad, but since I had been monkeying around with keychain access and just finished updating iOS to 8.02 I was convinced that it was alike based issue. I was ready to do a clean install the next morning, but it all just went back to normal.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

I have the same problem, starting at about the same time, but with a twist—it's a problem only with my home office wi-fi. As soon as I go somewhere else that has wi-fi, all of my missing verizon emails suddenly appear in mail. The verizon email also shows up on my iphone, but usually only when I'm away from my normal wi-fi connection. I work around this, using a gmail address and getting the verizon email via the web—and now by having the verizon email forwarded to gmail—but the problem itself is a mystery.

I SPENT ALL DAY THURSDAY with verizon & apple ( Note: I am a verizon/yahoo account customer)

Good news: problem solved...... my solution via a very savvy verizon rep (the 5th one I dealt with on Thursday):

there were multiple verizon accounts accessing the same server.

These had to be disconnected from iCloud & then deleted.

Don't touch your main/primary verizon account.

Delete others in INTERNET PREFERENCES (choose minus sign ➖)

Then be sure these are your settings:

incoming.yahoo.verizon.net

outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

In MAIL choose accounts then at outgoing mail server use pull down menu to get EDIT SMTP server list and delete all other verizon related.

I didn't think deleting outgoing would make a difference, but it did.

Good news: I now get all email for my primary Verizon account.

Other news: have not yet solved how to get email for sub account.

My verizon.net account suddenly stopped working on my Mac Mail?
