Apple MusicHi ...
Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click: About This Mac
Deleting network preferences may help.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference.
Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.
If that doesn’t help, try here > Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
"Base station fairly old" Might be time for a new one.
I have a brand new Airport Extreme that never drops Wi-Fi.

Have you tried moving the Mini closer to the router as a test?
Is the Mini in line of sight of the router with nothing in between?
