There are 2 reasons why this could happen.

1) The Bank has not updated their App and now it's not fully compatible with the new OS.

2) Sometime during the update to IOS 8 the App was denied access to the Camera.

Resolution:

1) Check the App Store and see if your bank has an updated version and install.

2) To allow your App to access the Camera you have 2 options.

A) Delete the App and wait 24hrs BEFORE you reinstall App. Once open you will get a Pop Up asking if you want to Allow the App to access the Camera. Select YES.

B) Don't want to wait 24hrs? Then follow these steps;

• Delete the App.

• Power the phone OFF, Then back ON

• GoTo Settings/General/Date & Time turn Set Automatically OFF then set the Date 2 days Forward.

• Power phone OFF then back ON

• GoTo App Store and Install the App

• Open the App and try to DEPOSIT you should get the Pop Up asking you to Allow your App to access the Camera and select YES.

• Once you confirm the Camera works you can now go back to Settings/General/Date & Time and Set Automatically.

mario49 - thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately the problem still exists. The camera works just fine as a camera but when I try to photograph a check, it still doesn't work. It did work up until 9/16 so maybe something went wrong when I downloaded the new op system. Thanks again for your suggestions and I'll keep trying to figure this out.

Hey sharonfromindependence,

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the camera isnt functioning. Is it only having trouble when using a specific app or in general? I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality

  1. If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
  2. If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
  3. Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
  4. Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
  5. Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
  6. Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
  7. Try to remain steady while focusing:
    • Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
    • Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
  8. If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
