My 6 year old iMac now shows the Calendar when i hit the F12 button to increase the volume. When i hit the F11 to decrease volume, the webpage i am viewing shifts to the left. For 5 years the volume control buttons worked fine. I need a keyboard shortcut for volume control.

Reset the SMC, if the first attempt does not work then try another 2-3 times. Instructions can be found by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset

Go to the System preference and see how this checkbox is set:
For me if it's unchecked the volume keys work as indicated. If checked you'll need to hold down the Fn key along with the volume key.
Thanks, but the reset did not work. I followed your instructions for both resets. I am still looking for an alternative way to control the volume. I went to System Preferences>Keyboard&Mouse but couldn't find anything. I can't find anything in Apple Support for this problem.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for the volume control? My F11 and F12 buttons have stopped working to adjust the volume.
