Q: Possible virus

I’ve had a few strange things happening the last two days. I keep an eye on the cookies that show up in Safari. There are certain sites I usually go to so I clean out all the unwanted cookies periodically. All of a sudden i got bombarded with cookies. There were a couple hundred when I would expect to see maybe 15. So I cleaned them out manually, but they poped back up. Did that a couple of times. So in preferences where it says “block cooked and other website data” I selected “Always” When I closed Safari and opened again it switched itself back to never and there were another 100 or so cookies.

I tried a few different times, deleting all cookies switching to always, etc. Sometimes it would stay on “Always” block cookies, but would allow cookies anyway. I was on a page while looking at preferences panel and watched about 50 cookies load in.

Another strange thing, In the history tab, I’ll hit the clear history button from time to time, but that tab has changed, no more clear history button just something to view history.

One last thing I went to a web page that I go to for news all the time and a new tab opened up from some site www.windows-alerts.com don’t know what that site is or where it came from. It showed a message saying “Your computer may not not be protected from malicious adware/malware” and showed a phone # to call to contact a live technician. It might have just been an ad, but it wasn’t a pop up it was a new window tab that opened as I hit a link to go to a site. I don’t know what would prompt that to show up.

It’s all very strange, I use a macbook with Mavericks with latest updates. Anyone have any suggestions? I once downloaded a few different virus protection programs. One was Mackeeper another was a free Mac virus program from my ISP Comcast. My computer ran really bad while these programs were installed. Someone on this forum suggested I delete programs and not to worry about virus on a Mac. I deleted and my computer started running normally again, but I seem to have some kind of a problem happening.

Thanks for any help……

This is new, every time I tried to log into this forum instead of logging in it took me either to different clean your mac software or some other page. Wouldn’t let me log in. I went to my iPad to log in.
