The IOS 8.0.2 "upgrade" has ruined my iPad 2 and iPad Air. Will Apple be implementing a fix to the problems- it is the most ridiculous upgrade ever!

I don't know what to say.

I downloaded the update onto my ipad2.

It caused problems.

I did a factory reset - and did not put my old apps back.

It still does not perform as well as it did before the update.

I don't call it a "problem" that a particular device (whatever model you may be referring to) is slowing down at each major upgrade (say ... from iOS 6 to 7 to 8). That's normal and to be expected. What I would say is a problem is that something doesn't work ... like my WiFi doesn't work or my cellular doesn't work, or Safari won't load or Photos quits all the time. "IF" those problems are happening on new and factory default iPad 2s ... then you've got a problem. Being slower from iOS 6 to 7 to 8 ... is not a "problem" but a normal situation that is to be expected. I've seen that happen in all my computers from 1984 (and that's when I got my first Macintosh) forward and with all my devices. It's a natural progression as hardware is made at a "point in time" and software keeps getting bigger and more powerful and more demanding.

I have an iPad 4, and I've noticed a very slight slowdown, but that's not a "problem" ... as I've said ... but simply a natural progression of events in the computer industry. I also suspect that Apple will also "tune it up" in some future "dot upgrades" ... :-) ...

Apple seriously hosed the 8.XX releases. I have an iPad 4 that worked wonderfully on 7.1.2. My "upgrades" to 8.0 and 8.02 have cut my wifi speeds less than half and app performance is very sluggish. There are some web pages that I can't even load anymore. Safari is close to useless (Chrome and Dolphin work a little better). I use my iPad partly for work, so this horrible performance has been very painful.

I've tried downgrading back to 8.0, but it has only helped slightly with fewer app crashes than 8.02. I've tried restoring, resetting network settings, restoring all settings, downgrading the firmware using DFU mode, turning airplane mode off/on, turning airdrop off/on. I did a full factory reset to both 8.0 and 8.02 and wifi was still ridiculously slow. I have two very different routers (NetGear Nighthawk and Apple TimeCapsule) -- the wifi performance is roughly the same on both. Although I have slightly fewer outright drops on the Apple router, it is still painfully slow. Also, running Speedtest isn't actually a good test - at least for me. I can test the upload/download and the problem seems fixed, but as soon as I try to navigate to a web page in Safari or even open Mail, speeds are very very slow.

Apple -- please, please, please start signing 7.1.2 again.

I am totally frustrated! I loved my IPad Air before this ridiculous update, now nothing works right; games quit while in process, I can not connect to Internet without first restarting my connection each and every time I need to connect, and then it is so slow, and won't connect to some sites regardless of how often I try. Apple please do something to correct this.

Thats not very comforting to someone who spend $900 on an Ipad Air to now have it run like its on ios 6.

I have the same issues with ios 8.0.2. This update is crippling my iPad which otherwise was working perfectly well before. Sluggish performance, unresponsive touchscreen, keypad issues, copy-paste issues, freezes and worst of all I am not even able to play embedded videos from any website anymore, I mean this is crazy! I am really irritated and frustrated by these niggling issues. And I wish Apple had never released an iOS upgrade for iPad 2 if it was going to make the device more or less useless.

I have been using this device for almost 2 years now and never, I mean never has it given me even an iota of trouble. It always felt nippy and responsive and like a true blue Apple product with all its brilliance and Magic. I seriously thought that it still had a lot of juice left in it to last another year or so until this update came along like a virus and just turned it into crap. Dam* Apple! Why?

That is the obvious answer. Apple must open THE WINDOW DOWNGRADE TO 7.12 and they must do it very quickly. Too many have lost functionality of their iPad2 with the 8 upgrade. It's a shame really. Come on Apple, please appease your many ipad2 customers. Thank you in advance regarding this matter.

For all of you, tell Apple, not us. All the devices I have upgraded for people (Over 70 now) are having no issues. So what do you want we other users to do for you?

I HAVE provided feeback via Apple's feeback page, as well as participating in this blog. It's true that Apple may not read its own support blogs, but do you know who does? The press. There are plenty of articles on this fiasco. If our feedback complaints aren't heard here, maybe they will listen to the bad press...

Complaining to Apple can't be productive until they first acknowledge that there is an issue. Apple's denial that their "fix-it" upgrade is equally faulty makes it impossible for users to learn a solution directly from the manufaturer. In the meantime, discussing with other users who may have found a remedy is the ONLY proactive route. This is what these forums are for, and if you don't support that concept then you're free to log off.

Actually I have also tried every possible solution mentioned in these support blogs. I've also repeated said remedies in other blogs. I do think there are some simple fixes out there. However, the fact that I have a $900 iPad virtually bricked on my desk is really, really frustrating. I've owned Apple products since '87 and been a very loyal customer over the years. I just want Apple to say there is a fix in the works or sign 7.1.2. Either way I'm happy. It's this whole PR thing that there is nothing wrong -- I've read hundreds of unresolved complaints at this point. Maybe my takeaway here is to buy Samsung next time. Very sad. Lol. But I guess that would make your blog a lot quieter.

Your iPad Air should be running better than that. I would recommend that you check out your iPad Air operatioin (your own) by resetting to a factory default position, just so you can get a "baseline" of operation on it. Be sure to save your data on a backup first, though. And when you reset it to factory default condition (just like it was shipped from the factory), then you can see how it's operating.

In addition to that, or perhaps in place of resetting your iPad Air ... go to the Apple Store and actually get your hands on their iPad Air at the store. Run that one through its paces and see it that store model is operating at the same level as the one you own. If the store one is operating a lot better and yours is not - then that's a clear sign that you have to reset your iPad Air and restore it to factory fresh condition - so it will operate like the one in the store.

I think you'll find that the store models are not exhibiting the problems you find with yours, and the reason why is that things happen over a period of time and you just have to "refresh" your device to clear up the unseen problems that are causing trouble for you.

Apple is not involved on this forum, as it's a "users helping other users" and none of these people posting here are from Apple. So, you'll have to contact Apple directly to address the issue you bring up.

But, having said that, I can pretty well assure you that Apple is not going to have a downgrade to iOS 7.1.2. You can state your opinion to Apple (and that's not on this forum, by the way) ... but it's not going to happen.

iOS 8.1 hasn't come out yet, and we have NOT seen iOS 8.2 either ... :-) ...
