Upgraded to 8.02 and bricked my iPad 2. Any denial or blaming this on users or somehow users not being savvy enough is ridiculous. Apple has made its name above all on UX and excellence of software and hardware integration.

Between the icloud celebrity leaks directly attributable to not enabling 2 factor authentication on time to upgrades that brick their products that are on offer on their store Apple's going through a rough patch. A true Apple supporter calls it like it is and raises voices on all forums so that the sentiment trickles up. Trying to sugarcoat it or manage traffic to appropriate forums doesnt detract from the sloppiest iPad upgrade in history. The thread shows up number 1 in Search Engines when you search for this issue. People angry are the ones searching. They'll let their feelings be known. Deal with it.

And Pete your misplaced shallow self righteousness aside there is nothing more annoying then signing off a forum post with your name when you have a username ffs.

I'll sign off how I like.

Follow the steps that have other iPad2 users solve their issues. You seem to be an expert at 'Search Engines', so go for it.

Since the "upgrade to OS8 and subsequent 8.0.2 I find my ipad3 now very slow for character entry.

For example twitter when entering @ or # is almost unusable, as unless I wait a second between each text entry characters are missed.

    I also get many crashes.

Safari often "locks" out usually on a drop box or flash box , and I have to reset.

The drop box copy for web links does not often work, the cut/copy buffer contains an earlier cut/copy.

Trying to place the cursor focus often now requires several jabs and holding to appear, moving the highlight is very temperamental

I have backed up my iPad, wiped and re-installed, which gained me a lot of Gb but no improvement in the above.

Will Apple be looking at an improvement or should I be looking for a device from another manufacturer?

I have an iPad Air. iOS 8 has made safari horrible like other posters. The update helped a little, but compared to what the iPad was like before, the new OS gets me so upset that I have to walk away from the iPad or I will throw it. My once lovely tablet is now a frustration machine. I am usually the first one to upgrade at work. Most of my coworkers have not upgraded yet.

HHas anyone seen a resolution? This is outrageous, Apple should spend less time with its social commentary and policy and focus on technology that works. Have iPad mini Retna and running 8.0.2. Major issue is having download problems cannot download apps and cannot download updats to newspapers in newsstand. have tried with wifi connections, lte, rebooting, etc... Does not work. Also touch screen is sluggish.

i Have more than enough memory.

Tried every fix suggested. They don't solve the problem. Yes the Ipad2 will run ios8 but only with very severe performance issues. Our only hope is a fix from Apple.

Hi, I agree with everything thats already been said here. I've never been tempted to jump on a forum to complain before, but IOS 8 has totally ruined my iPad2. I'm so frustrated by unbelievably sluggish performance, apps that don't open properly, won't close properly and screens that freeze for no reason. I don't want to do a factory reset, I just want to delete IOS 8 or swap my ipad2 for a non-Apple tablet. I'm a loyal Apple customer, but this is just awfull and Apple need to sort it out!!!!!

A reset to the factory default setup, using iTunes, is how a user is able to get a CLEAN INSTALL for their operating system, which is periodically necessary as you start accumulating garbage files and corrupted files over a period of time and FINALLY those files "get you" like they have for some users reporting here. When iOS 8.1 comes out on Monday, you don't need to have it trying to install this latest edit revision over and on top of your GARBAGE FILES, so do thst reset to factory default condition and have a clean and fresh iPad to work with.

i tried today to reset to factory default but i couldn't make a backup cause it kept giving me a 'device doesn't exist' error in the middle of the backup! I think i'll now just wait to see if iOs 8.1 will solve some of the problems for me before taking the final step to doing this without the safety of a backup.

Less that 50% of all iOs device users have taken the step to upgrade from iOs 7 to iOs 8, a percentage of these users when confronted with all the bugs and errors have since rushed back to downgrade and had all these problems resolved and their devices stabilized again when they were simply aloud to return to iOs 7.1.2 during that small window opportunity back in September (without having to reset/delete anything or take any needed steps further) and now a regretful percentage of this less than 50% are stuck with iOs 8 and experiencing some recurrent and sometimes fatal system errors with the promise of a hit/miss solution that might work for some of the lucky ones: wiping any affected device clean. Is it that awful to acknowledge that there is a big issue here that needs some sort of urgent addressing from the company that hopefully in this case will be iOs 8.1?

The larger and overwhelming majority of iOS 8.0.2 users are NOT having the problems with a non-functioning iPad and NOT having the trouble of something that has bern "bricked" (as some have described) but rather have functioning and usable iPads ... and have posted and said so on this forum ... including "yours truly" ... :-) ...

In addition to that, those who did have initial problems and have posted here about them ... have been able to solve their problems without Apple changing anything in iOS 8.0.2. There are so many of these people telling me that they have solved their problems that I have lost track of the number of them that have succeeded.

Here's an example of just one of them ...

iPad 2 and iOS 8.0.2 Problems

For all iPad 2 owners, this is an important solution for you! These problems result from long-term use, continuous upgrades, corrupted files and various glitches that happen over this long term use. You just need to get your iPad 2 back to FACTORY FRESH CONDITION to start out clean!

Here's one person's solution which will help a lot of iPad 2 users!

SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:

I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.

Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.

THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!

To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)

Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.
