You need to do a backup, do contact Apple Support about the problem and get the backup done ... either with iCloud or iTunes.

I honestly don't want to cause a stir here,

the fact all these recurrent iOs 8 problems stopped occurring for the users that were simply aloud to downgrade back to iOs 7.1.2 when they didn't have to do anything to address these damaged files just shows that perhaps something is incompatible between iOs 8 and previous version files that the team seem to have overlooked somehow and hopefully will be ironed out soon.

'The larger and overwhelming majority of iOS 8.0.2 users' is again just a percentage out of less than 50% of all iOs device users, the fact so many people still haven't upgraded speaks volumes or we could perhaps be talking about a different majority if more users did update to the iOs 8 experience.

anyway, I love apple and their products and I know deep down we all mean well and I am really grateful for everyone's help and the fact that there is a solution if these problems do persist and become too much to handle for the iOs 8 users that do come across any of these errors.

(thankfully i was just able to do a full backup after restarting my computer,my ipad and itunes a few times)

AND we can also ask why does everything work just fine when these users with trouble get rid of these corrupted files? ... :-) ...

ALSO ... I already answered this question about the upgrade rate before (somewhere else) ... from a news article that stated the "hold-back" for iOS 8 was related to waiting for the Mac OS Yosemite being released, as iOS 8 and Yosemite were heavily integrated. Since Yosemite was just released a couple of days ago, you'll now see the rate increase dramatically.

They also had one additional reason for the adoption rates to be on hold and that was to wait for the release of "iCloud Photo Library". Now, I agree with that reason, because that was one of my PRIME REASONS for going with iOS 8 ... just THAT ALONE. At the last minute the "iCloud Photo Library"  was pulled back from the release of iOS 8.0 ... BUT ... it has NOW been included in iOS 8.1 ... which is to be released on Monday (just a couple of days from now). So that's another item where you are going to see a dramatic uptick in the adoption rate ... just that alone for the iOS users!

Finally, ANOTHER HOLDUP for the adoption of iOS 8 was iCloud Drive, and that is going to be FULLY functional with iOS 8.1 on Monday, too.

SO ... you see ... There were actually "other reasons" for people waiting that had nothing to do with the very small number having some trouble with their update.

    Star Traveler,

i have taken my iPad 2 to theApple Genius Bar 3 times and come away with no solutions to fixing any of the problems that have been caused by installing iOS 8.0, 8.01 or 8.02. From my numerous trips to the Apple Genius, Apple is not concerned with fixing the problems with iPad 2 and the end result want us to buy a new compatible  iOS 8 iPad.

I think you'll find many iPad owners have experienced exactly the same as you have above.  It's a pity some people cannot accept that fact.

Apple is selling - as of TODAY - the iPad 2 model on its own online store site ... :-) ... so the argument that Apple doesn't want people to keep the iPad 2 model doesn't "hold" with that fact. That's the trouble with this kind of SPECULATION in that it rarely matches the FACTS of the matter. In addition to that, Apple also offers a TWO YEAR WARRANTY, TODAY, with that iPad 2 ... which clearly means that they will "back up" the full and complete operation of that iPad 2 for at least two more years!

Add to that, that Apple ALSO SAYS that those iPad 2 models that it sells today on their online store website, which they intend to support and backup in its full operation for another two years, at least ... Apple says that THIS IPAD 2 that they sell TODAY will run iOS 8 perfectly fine.

It's a pity some people cannot accept that fact.

The thing is ... that it's a pity that some don't seem to grasp or understand that those who have had some initial problems with their iPad 2 ... have had success in solving it and they run perfectly fine now. There are countless users here on this forum who have reported that. And that's in addition to the larger and overwhelming majority of users who had no problems at all in the beginning. It's a pity that some people don't understand that since this is the case, it proves that the iPad 2 can and will run iOS 8.0.2 perfectly fine ... and therefore, they are going to have to go through the troubleshooting methodology to find their particular problem and get back to running normally, again.

Having a "gripe-fest" is not in the troubleshooting methodology.

    Star Traveler,

it very noticeable from all your posts that you do not read all the posts from Apple iPad 2 owners that are having problems considerable problems since the iOS upgrade and Apple is NOT concerned in fixing the problems for iPad 2. In all 3 visits to the Apple Genius Bar I ended up talking to the Store Manager with no solutions for Apple to fix the problems for iPad 2. The only reason for the recent upgrades to iOS 8 is only to fix problems more for the new iPhone 6 and current other products that Apple currently sell. I would venture to say Star Taveler you probably don't own a iPad 2.

Seems other sites are a bit more realistic in acknowledging size of the problem

iOS 8.1 will signify Apple’s perhaps quickest response in history to feedback from a major iOS release. Just a week after the launch, iOS 8 saw 8.0.1 coming out, followed quickly by iOS 8.0.2 to fix the major issues that had been introduced with the previous version. 8.0.2 addressed a lot of qualms, and is generally fairly stable for daily use. However, Apple is pushing iOS 8.1 out the door just four weeks after the launch.

I'm getting reports from many iPad 2 owners who say they have never had problems. And then I'm getting reports from iPad 2 owners who have had initial problems and now, after fixing it, they don't and their iPad 2 is running fine. I've gotten so many of these reports from owners here on this forum who have fixed their problems with the iPad 2 that I lost count a long time ago.

SO ... it's very clear that those remaining owners who still have problems are "technically able" to get their iPads running just fine, too ... when they go through all the necessary troubleshooting steps and go to Apple Support to get their problem taken care of. If it were "not possible" to have a fully functional and running iPad 2 on iOS 8.0.2, then none of the overwhelming majority of iOad 2 owners would have their iPad running either.

In addition to the above, any of the minor bugs that we've seen in iOS 8 will see a bug fix in the coming iOS 8.1 ... this Monday ... a couple of days from now.

The iOS 8.1 update is giving us NEW FEATURES ... the iCloud Photo Library" and the "iCloud Drive" ... both of which I've been waiting for and am glad Apple is doing it on Monday.

Maybe Apple should concentrate its vast resources at trying to get a clean upgrade in place first, that doesn't need owners to go off down routes of restores etc, before looking at new features
