It appears that some of the  long term posters on here just don't get the fact that some loyal Apple followers to date, are very frustrated and upset by recent events.  If you're lucky enough not to have ben affected then good for you.  But for people like myself and Carleson, who have bought Apple products for years , we are sat here with our once perfectly working devices, now sub standard due to the ios8.x upgrades.

Ive personally followed all the technical advice on here and finally have my iPad 2 more stable.  But it still runs much slower than before the Ios upgrades.   My wife's iPad is the same.  However my daughters identical iPad, which we left on ios7 runs perfectly.   Christ I had a friend round here today with £130 tesco hudl that is more responsive.

Instead of accusing people of ranting, why don't you acknowledge that there are a bunch of passionate Apple owners who have just had their pride and joy degraded by this recent upgrade.   I think they are all in their rights to be a little upset with Apple.  The constant denial of some on here that there isn't a problem really doesn't help

After the last upgrade iOS 8.1 and no improvement for my iPad 2 and finally dawned on me that Apple is not concerned with fixing the problems with iPad 2 operating on iOS 8. I really believe that it can't be fixed even if Apple could. So last Saturday I gave in and brought a new Apple Air iPad 2 and it is great and very fast, so am sad that the problems occurred with the old iPad I am very satisfied with the new Air iPad 2.

It does not matter how passionate you are. Technology changes. That is the very nature of it. Try getting a young person, the obvious market for any technology company, to use iOS 6 or OSX Snow Leopard. They will laugh at you. If you wish to remain in the past then simply do not keep upgrading new system software onto old hardware. I have had to get use to changes in every OSX and iOS I have chosen to update to. That is my choice and by the numbers the choice of tens of millions of others. Yet it is a handful of unhappy users here in a troubleshooting forum that Apple are supposed to accommodate? Imagine if Governments ran that way? We would all be third world countries run by old *****!

Pete, you are correct technology moves on and if people fall into the camp of must have the latest bells and whistles then I'm sure Apple will continue to take their money.

However I bought 5 x iPad 2's less than 2 years ago for my family.  I don't expect to have to replace all of them because a new release of IOS has some new features that we persomally have no interest in.  Now if Apple had kindly flagged up that the IPad 2 was not up to the job of latest IOS I wouldn't have upgraded it.  Simples.   But to not do this and on top of this, then take away the chance to revert back to an IOS that works for us, is unacceptable.

EVen microsoft acknowledges this and only this year stopped support of Windows XP.   But then again Microsoft doesn't make the majority of its money by people buying the latest hardware.  Not hard to see Apples game plan here ?

Actually on that point I wonder how the 6 year term from the Sales of Goods Act applies here, where all goods must be

    • as described
    • of satisfactory quality and
    • fit for purpose

So a 2 year old iPad 2 was fit for purpose under iOS 7, but then Apple invite you to upgrade to ios8, where it is no longer fit for for purpose.  Then to top it all, they remove any chance to revert to IOS7.

TBH I would be happy if Apple just said sorry and allowed us to revert to iOS 7.  Everyone makes mistakes.

    Dave.

After several attempts to get my ipad up and running again, I was faced with knowing that I would have to restore my ipad.  It was in "recovery mode".  I ended up calling Apple Care Customer Service and when I explained that my ipad crashed after trying to update it to the IOS 8 they agreed to help me without charging me. The CSA who helped me was very patient and very helpful.  She helped me with so many variables as to why my ipad wasn't running and in the end it ended up being my usb/power cord that was making my ipad unrecognizable to my desktop computer. I got a new cord and was able to restore my ipad but it still doesn't excuse the whole crash and restore thing I had to go through.  It takes a lot of time to restore and then download all my original items from the ICloud.

My Ipad is lagging a bit and apps crash and shut down at times.  I'm just super happy to have my IPad operable again but wish it wasn't so painful and scary.

<<<<I just took a bunch of stuff off my ipad 2 yesterday just to upgrade to IOS 8 and now my ipad won't start and can't be "found" on ITunes (when I tried to restore it)!  I am so angry and frustrated right now because there's no way this should of happened! My Ipad was working just fine with the IOS 7 but now I can't even use it!  What the heck Apple?  I am such a loyal user of Apple products and I cannot believe this happened where my ipad is now basically dead!  It's not right and apple needs to fix this problem and get my ipad operable again!>>>>

After I upgraded my iPad it closes, doesn't respond to a touch screen, sluggish & the list goes on & on.  I'm very disappointed to say the least!  This week I'll go to the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store & see if they can help me.

Personally I take offence to some of the comments posted here.  I'm a new Apple user but not a new user of computers.  Yes, my iPad 2 will soon be 4 years old but had I known that  I didn't have to do the recent upgrades I wouldn't have done so.  And the fact that you are not able to uninstall an update to return to the one which was very satisfactory is sinful!  At this time although some of the initial issues have been resolved it's still not working properly; freezing, closing down unexpectedly & the list goes on and on.

Last fall I decided to purchase the top of the line iMac with a 27" screen, a time capsule & lots of other bells & whistles.  I have to admit that their Apple Care is extremely helpful.  But if I think that after 4 years this investment would become unusable & out-of-date I'll surely return to using a PC.

The other day when I spoke to Apple Care about an issue with my iMac I mentioned the issues I was having with my soon to be 4 year old iPad2.

She strongly urged me to share the feedback directly to Apple here ... http://www.apple.com/feedback/

    Skateroo,

I used the link you posted and submitted my complaints there. Thanks for the link. venting here is only gathering insults for customers.

I encourage everyone to use the link above instead. http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Maybe with enough complaints, for the first time, Apple might respond to a mistake.

But i too echo the complaints on my iPad Mini - lagging, freezing, and app closing.

I ask for either a new update - iOS 8 lite for iPad 2 and Minis -OR- open the window to let us go back to 7.1.2!

Yes, you are correct. We have been encouraging users to direct their complaints to that feedback link for years. Sometimes enough users complain and Apple listen, as with the return of Camera Roll in iOS8.1

Interestingly enough, many, many users here have fixed their issues using various fixes given throughout these forums and are reporting their iPad2s as running as good as they were under iOS7

    Cheers

Not easy, as Apple do not support downgrading of iOSs. Not our fault here. Complain to Apple here.
