Desktop background stuck on black

My desktop background is a solid black. When I go into system preferences and change the desktop background, it shows the little image (says that the background is changed) but the background remains solid black. I tried killall Dock in terminal and it flashed gray for a second then went black again. Is there any fix for this? Here's what it looks like:User uploaded file
