iPad 2, Apple HDMI adapter, VPN Disconnect

After the upgrade to iOS 8 my iPad continues to disconnect VPN only when connected to the tv using an Apple HDMI adapter. It will play for only 1 minute before disconnecting, however if it is not connected to the adapter it has no problems.

I use my iPad to watch Netflix with a VPN so every time it disconnects the VPN, Netflix also disconnects. I have been using this iPad and adapter with this computer for about two years and have not had any issues. Also if I watch on the iPad without connecting to the TV again, no issues.

Has anyone else been having this trouble and has anything helped? I assume it is a problem with the upgrade and have seen a lot of posts about trouble with "non" apple adapters but nothing much about problems with real apple adapters~~
