error code 1000

Suddenly iMovie from iLife 04 won't open. When I click the bar nothing happens and when trying to open from applications I get the error code 1000.
Is iMovie corrupted? Should I trash the iMovie folder and reinstall?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Arthur

Hello Sue
Thanks for all your suggestions and help.
I ran the hardware test - OK
Repaired disk and permissions by booting from the install disk - all appeared to be fine and yet still the silly error code for burning dvd-r from classic.
So - in despiration I trashed iMovie and all the files associated with it and then reinstalled iLife. (reinstalling just iMovie did not help)
Now all is well with iMovie.
I guess something might have be linking different applications. ???
A strange life these electrons lead.
Again, thanks Sue.
