After HP 3.0 Software Update no longer see printer over network

I am running 10.9.5 and after the recent HP Printer Software Update I can no longer print to my network printer (HP CM1015).

When I first tried to print something the Print Queue software was saying the latest Printer Software update was install incorrectly (it was done via the App Store).

So I deleted the printer from my list of printers and then came here and downloaded the 3.0 update myself and reinstalled it.

I then went to Printers to try to Add the printer again but it never shows up in under Default.

I then tried to add it using IP and it was able to find it then but when I try to print it just waits and when I check the print queue it says the printer is paused.

I unease it and it spins a bit and then goes back to paused.

Not sure what else to try. I've seen many other people complaining about printer issues since the latest updates so I figure it's not just me with a problem.

I reset the printing system and then went to add it again, this time using the HP Jetdirect protocol but it said it couldn't find the printer then.

It then occurred to me that using IP to Add a Printer means a printer directly on a network which is not what I have.

My printer is connected to another iMac that is running Snow Leopard and I was using the IP of that machine. When trying to add a printer via IP does it mean the IP of the printer itself or the system it is connected to?

This is getting frustrating because this all worked fine before the latest updates. I could add printers through the Default tab of the Add Printer window no problem. Now it doesn't see anything.

Thanks for that added info.

It might help to cycle the sharing check boxes (off and back on) in Sharing prefs and Print & fax prefs on the "print server" Mac.

To manually add a shared printer (not using Bonjour, that is), Use IP > IPP, enter the print server Mac's IP address, and in the queue name space, enter

/printers/<actual printer queue name from the server Mac goes here>

Hi Community and specialists,

i've got a very similar problem:

I'm running OS 10.9.5 on a Intel iMac 27" with 20 GB Ram and use a HP 3800 Color Laser Jet Printer.

The Appstore offered a driver update for HP printers (Vers. 3.0) a couple of days ago.

Since i had done this....printing is impossible, files just pile up in the print queue, but the HP keeps silent.

The printer selftest printed fine and I used an other USB cable as a test.

I deleted the printer from the iMac, reinstalled it, I resetted the printing system - notting helped.

Along with the recent troubles in IOS 8 - is there a "printgate" or does anyone know how to get it back to the Driver version before 3.0 ??

Thanks from good old Europe

b-bob,

I would try some generic maintenance (since I haven't experienced this issue):

Restart in the Recovery partition and use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and repair permissions:

OS X: About OS X Recovery

(Please just read the first paragraph about how to get into Recovery - don't reinstall OS X)

After that, Add the printer again and try it.

PS - for future reference, you should start a new topic when your situation isn't identical. To do that, go to the Mavericks top page, and "Ask a Question."

Hi greg sahli,

thnx for the immediate answer and kind hint.

I've read the Page you'd linked to. My iMac had been delivered with 10.7 then upgraded to 10.8 and now is on 10.9.5 and had printed perfect, up to the moment it was updated to the printer driver Vers. 3.0 !! According to the page you linked, i'll end up with 10.7 again ?? Or i'm mislead?

Do You know how to get it back to the HP Printer driver before the Vers. 3.0 ?

It might be in the TimeMachine backup? but i don't know its file name?

Meanwhile i did a right repair in the disc utility program, with no effect aside the fact word now crashes after a print order.

There are many reports, reading the rights repair in Mavericks, is more ore less useless - the new IOS did this by itself?

The printer is still not seen by the iMac.

I found lots of similar complaints about the driver update 3.0 for HP in the apple support pages.

Again my question: is there a way to go back to the Printer driver before the Vers. 3.0 ??

I hope for a solution, different from install 10.7 or shop a new non-HP color laser

I tried to emphasize - I don't want you to reinstall!

In order to repair the hard drive "completely," you need to boot from some other source. That is one use of the Recovery partition, since we no longer have the install DVDs to start from for repairing the hard drive.

Repairing permissions is "sometimes" useful because files really do have wrong permissions. Unfortunately, when you run it, it reports many, many unimportant changes.

A few people report that repairing permissions and then deleting/re-Adding the printer works.

And another person reported that disabling McAfee software was part of the solution.

Update,

I've deleted the printer from Print&Scan Prefs.

I've deleted the directory ~/Library/Printers/hp/ and rebooted the iMac...

Surprise: The printer, even deleted, is still there??

Surprisingly after that the IMac "sees" the printer in the HP Utility Tool and could read the firmware vers. serial Nb. and so on.

It even was possible to print a config page of the HP.

But print a file out of a program, will still pile up in printer queue with status "waiting on printer"

Apple Support via mail informed, no reaction till now - any Ideas?

Hi greg sahli,

thank you for still tracking my problem.

I'm not advice resistant....

It isn't the "I don't want to", it is more the: "I'm in fear of end up with 10.7" after this suggested reinstall?

Actually it is the question - if I do this what OSX will I end up with?

Generally spoken, it that sort of "out of the blue" troubles, which made me leave WIN behind and got an iMac instead.

I've no McAfee on my IMac.

Again my question: is there a way to go back to the Printer driver before the Vers. 3.0 ??

There is a TimeMachine Backup on a NAS, but how is the file name, to search for the old HP printer Driver?

The non working Printer Driver is Vers. 19.8 downloaded from Appstore as HP Update for Printer Software Vers. 3.0

Thank You for being patient

sorry for misinterpreting you about reinstalling IOS and reinstalling the printer.

I sort of nervous now, actually this printer issue killing my time, which i didn't really have.

Now I'am saving on a stick, go to the other office and print there...

Didn't expect to run into this sort of trouble in the Apple world as well.....

I did now, as you suggested and got to operate the disc utility tool, repaired all permissions.

After rebooting, the HP printer - definitely deleted before - was still there and didn't print as before.

Any ideas? Apple support hadn't react, seems the have a lot to do....

Hi b-bob,

Running low on ideas. Please try Recovery partition again and repair the hard drive, too (not permissions).

You say the printer was there after it was deleted? I think that would be normal - because the printer is found by Bonjour (OS X's auto-discovery service).

However, you can still complete the " + " adding process and choose a driver - have you gone through that yet?

After all this, if it's still not working, can you please post all your troubleshooting and lack of success on apple.com/feedback. Apple needs to hear some complaints about this issue. (Apple employees don't read here very often - this is user-to-user support)
