Q: Photo stream via apple tv

can anyone help?  I want to look at selected photos through my Apple TV and create a slide show.  I have a step by step manual on how do do this.  I followed the steps after deciding to set this up via the computer app and home sharing method.  Itunes is up to date, and open and on same network as my Apple tv but for some reason my library will not load.

iI then decided to switch my photo stream on, on my iPhone 5 and see if I could stream the photos i want, this has not worked either I get a message that there is no activity and a 0 shows next to my photo stream on the iCloud app on my Apple tv.

I am extremely fed up now as I have wasted so much time trying to sort this out.  Is my apple TV box broken or is it just a load of rubbish and does not do as Apple advertise it to do.

HAs has anyone else experienced the same problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

When you switch on photo stream it only adds photos that are taken or added after that.

You might want to select some photos and share them to a shared album (you don't actually need to share them with anyone), this will ensure that the photos are available permanently and not just for 30 days as is the case with 'my photo stream'.

    Hi again

your reply helped me greatly I wondered if you know how I can delete photos that have streamed through Apple TV.  I have taken some photos that are out of focus, deleted them from my iPhone almost immediately but when I go to look at slide show on Apple TV they are there.

also I want to look through my photos via albums on iTunes but i keep getting a message saying can't connect to iTunes as it needs to be on same network, up to date version of iTunes is required and it is.  Any idea why this won't work.

    Thanks

Have you deleted these photos from your camera roll or from the photo stream album. You need to delete them from the photo stream album for them to disappear from the Apple TV. However if you have opted to use the new iCloud photos on your mobile device it's all a bit complicated during the transition period (indeed some go so far as to describe it as a mess )

iCloud photos and photo stream are different things. If you are using iCloud photos, new photos will be added to iCloud photos which behind the scenes will also be added to photo stream, however when you delete photos from iCloud photos they aren't automatically deleted from photo stream. But you can do this from your Apple TV.

Thank you so much I am not sure which method I was using but I deleted them from my photo stream album and they disappeared which is fantastic.

i Have one more little problem relating to my Apple TV, for some reason I can't access my iTunes library and other photo albums via computers on Apple TV menu.  I have set up home sharing, iTunes is up to date and they are both on same network but I keep getting the same message that it can't connect to my library or my husbands.  I have even purchased a book which guides you through step by step which I have followed

as you clearly know your stuff I wondered if you knew what was causing this

    thanks again
