Q: No 1080p signal to external monitor after mavericks 10.9.5 update.

After updating my 2011 macbook air to 10.9.5, my external monitor is completely black when the resolution is set to 1080p. 720p is the only resolution that i can set the monitor to, and have it work. 1080p, 1600x900, and 1344x756, all display a completely black signal as the monitor was off, but i can drag windows or move my mouse off of my macbook's screen.

The monitor is connected using a mini display port to hdmi, and both the monitor and cord work perfectly fine. Prior to the update, It was set to 1080p and worked flawlessly. Currently, I am able to use the monitor fine if set to 720p, but it looks oversized and unpleasant.

I have tried all variations of settings, and nothing seems to work other than scaled 720p on my monitor and scaled 1366 x 768 on my macbook. I have also tried rebooting, unplugging, updating software. I tired to the solution to uncheck "displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control, as well as holding "option" and then clicking 'detect displays'.

Can anyone help me fix this? It is really irritating having a monitor with resolution settings that doesn't look right.
