iPad 3rd gen (Model A1416) slow with iOS > 8.0

Dear All,

since I installed iOS 8 and now 8.0.2 on my iPad 3th gen the speed is noticeably slow - specially by typing in text like here (time lag - ms - since you press the key and the appearance of it on screen) and by opening new windows and changing between them.

I deactivated from day 1 with iOS 8 all special "effects" like the parallax one as to avoid this slow downs, but the slow down is still annoying. i don't want to think this is the way "things work" as to move you to dispose "old" hardware and go for the latest one and know the hardware inside the iPad 3rd gen should be more than enough to run just an operating system, irrespective of being 8 or 8.0.2.

Question: is there a way to get no lag on typing and no slow downs on easy tasks? Any hints on how to make an "old" iPad 3rd gen retina work correctly with iOS 8?

Is someone facing the same slow down on an iPad 3rd generation (Retina, 32gb, wifi)?

appreciate comments.

regards,

Andres

One thing that may help is restoring the iPad as a new device, NOT using a previous backup. Sometimes, settings from a previous backup or device don't transfer over well. You will need to make sure you have a backup of all your device's content like music and photos. Also make note of and record all important settings like network info and email accounts. It will be time consuming but it may in fact improve the performance.

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke. If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, read this.

I am having all of the same issues with my iPad 3 gen. as Andres W. described as well as a few other issues. I also notice black boxes on Web pages and unresponsive Web pages. My iPad gets hot if I use it for more than 30 min and freezes probably from over heating,

My iPad is in PERFECT condition. Not a single scratch on front or back. It was in perfect working condition overall until I updated to IOS 8, 8.0.2. I have not "jailbroken" (not really sure what that is but pretty sure that I didn't do it) It's been protected in a case since the moment it was taken out of the box. It's never been dropped or had any crazy software installed. I'm a 48 year old woman with a PC and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 so my IPad is used only about 20 hrs a week. I had read about other people having problems so I held off updating until mid Nov2014. I felt my IOS 7 was not working as well because so many apps had been updated for compatibility with the new IOS 8 I felt I was losing functionality if I continued with IOS 7. since I updated to the new software I learn it's not compatible with my perfectly good hardware. I feel there is no answer for iPad 3 or older (which is not really that old).

My husband is the Mac guy. He is a Marine Corps Pilot and all of his peers are Mac people. Even he is a little disappointed with my issue,

AM I missing something? Is there a solution for those of us with gen 3 or older hardware in perfectly good condition? if there are other Gen 3 IPAD owners out there please reply with your solutions.

Thank you for your efforts

I am also having the same problem. It it very frustrating. My wife has a 4th generation iPad and it is fine. Sitting side by side in the house going to the same web site her's is fast. Mine is dog slow. I'm going to keep searching for a solution and probably will try what is posted above. I was hoping for more of a silver bullet solution however. I don't have the time to be doing restores.

phillyfan, never been jailbroke,

used the two button reset and that appears to have corrected the problem for me so far. Before reset just writing this would have been a chore due to lag time. Keys now responding quickly. All other slow operations appear to have sped up as well. It's like my IPad is suddenly usable again. I was actually looking for the restore instructions when I found your post glad I did so I had to do just the reset.

Thank you for the fix!!!!
