I have a short film I shot at 2.4:1 aspect ration 5K - 5120 x 2160.
When I export it out to Blu-ray image and burn it, I get the correct aspect ration with black bars at the top and bottom.
When I export it out as DVD image and burn it, the image is filling the screen and it's all stretched skinny.
Anyone know how to get FCP X to do this correctly?
I googled this and couldn't find anything.

Create a new custom project with SD 480 properties. Copy an paste your timeline to that new project's timeline.

I'm going to "wing" an answer here:
DVD is always 720x480, no matter what. If you format the playback for widescreen, you have to set the Anamorphic flag (select a 720x480 DV Anamorphic project). If you apply your video to an anamorphic DVD format with Letterboxing set (Spatial Conform: Fit), it should format itself within the widescreen (with the appropriate letterboxing) intact.

It looks I found a solution by using Compressor and selecting "Preserve Source Aspect Ration" under the Padding parameter in the Video tab of the info.
If this doesn't work (haven't burned it yet to test), I'll try your solution.

Thanks, fox_m. The settings inside FCP X are what I used to create the first disc image and it really didn't have many options except 16:9 or 4:3. I chose 16.9 and it did that, but it didn't pad the image. I just stretched it.
Compressor has more control and it looks like it's working.
