Q: Airport Time Synch

I've been having HUGE numbers of Airplay dropouts since I updated my iPad to iOS 8.0.2...REALLY annoying.  I have an Airport Extreme acting as a base station serving two other Airports in my living room, both set to Join a Network (mine); one Airport Express that I use Airplay to stream net radio and music to my stereo,  and another Airport Extreme which serves wired net connections to my TV, blue ray player,  and satellite receiver.

So looking for a culprit I went into Airport Utility and looked at the activity Logs for each Airport - what I noted is that my base AP Extreme synchs to time only once at turn on, and the other two are synching to the Apple Time Server every hour or so...no idea why they would be doing this.

Is there a way I can force the extending/joining devices to only time synch once - when I bring my network up, like my base station does - and not continually?  Or as Joiners, do I not even need to allow them to synch and can I turn that off?

There are no controls for how often time is syncing.. AFAIK.

Even in v5 firmware you can select a time server but nothing else.

Apple take most of the controls out of human hands.. as a way to make things simple.

If you look you will see loads of posts here about airplay being a dog after update to 8.0.2 which indicates apple do not actually test their software very well before releasing it.

I would expect another update in a few days to fix the fixes that broke in the last one.

    Airplay issues since ios 8

    Doesn’t always fix it though.

Yes...I just looked at Airport Utility under 10.7.5 and there is a lot of configuration control for Airport missing compared to what is in the 5.6.1 version of Airport Utility.  I did use that version to turn Auto Time Synch off (which you can't do under the newer version) on the two offending devices, and is hasn't seemed to affect my network operation but that certainly didn't fix my Airport dropout problem.

Very objectionable, Apple.  Fix this Airplay dropout issue, already!
