Emails display in Gmail from wrong sender on iPhone only

This is a weird one. iPhone 6 running 8.0.2. I've had every iPhone since 2007 and have never seen this before. My 6 has been rock solid since I picked it up on launch day.

I shipped a package via USPS, and signed up for tracking updates via email to my main Gmail account, which I've done 100 times. Yesterday morning I received one of the tracking emails...the sender displays as US_Postal_Service@usps.com in my inbox with the subject line as "USPS Shipment Info for <tracking number>". All good and normal.

Here's the weird thing - the next 6 emails received directly after that one ALSO display as coming from US_Postal_Service@usps.com with that same subject line, even though they are really from various senders - Groupon, BestBuy, MLB, etc. When I tap one of those messages to read it, it still shows the USPS sender and subject, but actual the body of the email is correct and as it should be - Groupon, BestBuy, etc. Restarting the phone had no effect.

When I view that Gmail inbox on my iPad or on a full browser on my desktop computer, those emails display properly, and don't have the rogue USPS info associated with them. Nothing has changed with this Gmail account, and this phone was set up from my iPhone 5's last backup, which never had this issue. All emails received since yesterday morning are behaving normally.

Do I call this a weird glitch and just move on? Has anyone seen anything like this, or have any idea what might have caused it? Thanks!

I did saw this on my phone when i first install iOS 8 on iPhone 5. But haven't see it after 8.0.1 or 8.1 update. It was rare though.

I do have this new issue on 8.1.1 that is somewhat related to this. I hope others can chime in.

I have gmail on my phone.

Delete a few emails from inbox.

then when i go into mail -> Accounts -> All Mail -> and move what i deleted back into Gmail inbox, 75% of the time, the moved email will have the wrong 'sender'. It will pick one of the recipient as a sender to display.

However, when i go into gmail from a desktop computer, it will show the CORRECT original sender.

I even restarted the phone and same error.

If I forward the email, the CORRECT original sender will be shown.

This bug does not happen on Yahoo or iCloud mail.

Is anyone having this issue?

I have a similar problem, although it didn't happen until I moved some flagged emails into a folder I created on the mailboxes page. I made a "receipts" folder for the gmail account, added that folder to my mailboxes page. (I have about 4 email accounts on my iPhone 5s with ios 8.1) once I selected multiple emails in my "all inboxes" view, (which all happened to be GMAIL emails) and moved them to the 'receipts' folder I made, they now have the body of a different email entirely, with the subject heading and sender for a different email completely.

-All of these emails happen to be order confirmations from online shopping, or flight itineraries from Expedia.com. For example the sender is Expedia, the subject heading is "flight confirmations", but the body of the email is from converse.com confirming that my order has been processed... ?

Update: Solution (temporary?)

I deleted the Gmail account from Settings> mail, contacts, calendars> Gmail> DELETE ACCOUNT.... which removes gmail from your email and contacts and calendars obviously... but you can re-add it easily and everything will be back where it was, EXCEPT you'll have to re customize all your settings and folders for gmail. this will also free up a lot of phone memory storage without losing anything.

Has anyone found a more permanent solution to this issue? It's happening a lot to me and is making it very hard to keep up with the correct e-mails. Also, when I forward the e-mail that has the correct subject line and sender but incorrect message, it is still incorrect when received at the forwarded address (which is in Outlook on a PC - I'm not just forwarding it to another e-mail account on my iPhone). I have three e-mail accounts on my iPhone with many folders and don't want to have to delete them all and re-customize settings and folders every time this happens. Very frustrating!!

Yeah. I still have random issue with what i posted before and some of LiamWallace except (i take back what i said about forwarding showed up correctly), it now may not be. that is, If i move an email to another folder, say to trash and then back to inbox (still in the gmail account), and forward that email to anyone, say to myself, i will get EITHER the correct body that i want to forward, but wrong sender; or the correct sender's email that i want to forward but the body is someone else.

I deleted the account and re-added it back it. It work for a bit. Now, it is like i need to double check the sender and the body of the email matched before i pressed send. This, to me, happen in iOS 8! i am on the most current patch.

Oh. Here is another issue just pop up when the next to last software patch 8.1.1 i think. This happens on Gmail, Yahoo and Exchange Server.

When i delete an email, or go back and forth to a different folder back to inbox, SOMETIME (say 50%) i may see a duplicated email. Same sender/subject and first few lines of the body in the inbox screen. When i scroll up and down, it remains as it was a real message.

When i delete one of the thought the email accidentally pull a duplicate, it will delete the email that i selected but here is the kicker. It will show that ONLY 1 email of that same sender/subject remain. Yeah! but once you refresh your inbox, you mind out both copies were deleted. I have to go back to the trash an recover it.

I never had this issue on iOS 7.

Hi!

Even if this post is slightly older and SisterBlue's problem did not reappear I would like to state my experiences here, as the same issue appeared to me as well: showing / displaying wrong senders or cc-adresses in the email details.

As this happened both with emails and calender items the root problem might be localized in the contacts. So I stopped / disabled the automatic sync of the contacts and enabled it again.

It worked for my problem. All adresses are shown correctly now.
