I previously was linked to my moms apple id account and so all of our apple devices are linked. I recently created my own apple id to make our devices separate in apps like messages, iTunes, and iCloud. any help on how to make these completely separate is much appreciated.

It sounds like you need to sign out of the Apple ID in the various services that is is signed into on your phone so you can use yours instead. You can go to your Settings on your phone and sign out of these services that use an Apple ID.
