how to uninstall and reinstall mavericks

I have to question marks at the bottom of my iMac...one for maps and one for iBooks...what do I need to do to show the icon and not the question mark?

Also I was trying for the first time to clean up apps that I don't use everyday and I must have done something wrong because now Quick time is saying it doesn't have all of the things it needs to work and the same for iMovie....it says that they are installed but I can't get these to work...is there a easy way to uninstall and reinstall Mavericks so my iMac is running right?

Thanks

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Other OS, 10.9.5

First, remove the Question Mark icon from the Dock just as you remove any other Dock icon. Next, go to your Applications folder. Locate Maps then drag its icon into the Dock. Repeat with the iBooks icon.

iMovie is not installed as part of OS X. Did you download the latest Mavericks version of iMovie from the App Store? I cannot answer about QT because you haven't stated what is not available.

You cannot uninstall OS X. You can erase your hard drive then install a version of OS X. Or if you already have, say, Mavericks installed then you can reinstall it without erasing the drive:

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive

Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks

OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.

You don't need to uninstall and reinstall Mavericks. Start by just restarting your iMac holding the Command and R keys so you restart on the recovery hard drive partition. From Utilities on the menu bar choose, Install Mac OS X. That will just reinstall Mavericks and it's builtin apps. See how that behaves and if it cleans up some of what you deleted. If it is not right, then there are more drastic things to do.
