You have pull. I haven't been so lucky. I've been logged out even with reloadevery -- reload failed. I'm now reloading my profile.

Robert

IF I have pull, I sure would like to use it on other stuff. No pull just a regimen that works 100% of the time

Try this, works 100% of the time, IF you follow this EXACT WorkFlow... (the numbered list assume receiving an email notice)

  1. Go to your forum of choice Main Page (this will become your 'Base Camp' page)
  2. click Login, which takes you to the Login page
  3. Browser Bookmark that Login Page
  4. click [Sign In]
    1. you are now logged in and have started a 'timer' in a set cookie
    2. you will be logged off without notice after ±30 minutes of inactivity
    3. clicking a Link that is NOT a JavaScript link resets the timer in the cookie
    4. I use a browser add-on that reloads the Base Camp page every 20 minutes = NEVER logged off by the timer
      - DO NOT close the TAB, the AutoReloader is tied to the TAB not the page itself
      1. Safari - SafariTabReloader
      2. Firefox - ReloadEvery: "Reload web pages automatically"
  5. Switch to your email client or WebMail page**
  6. Click the link to Reply
  7. AutoSwitches to browser, thread page & post to which you are replying = Login State = TRUE
  8. If you use an AutoReloader, all you need do the rest of your browser session is repeat #5 & #6

Vary from this WorkFlow by clicking reply in the email FIRST and all bets are off... you will experience login failed on that page but logged in on another... 100% of the time with that particular email notice - I have not found the workaround or cause

** OR CMD+click a link on BaseCamp page to open in a new TAB

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/rccharles?view=discussions = VERY empty below the TAB bar and above the footer

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/rccharles = normal Bio page

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/ChitlinsCC?view=discussions = VERY empty below the TAB bar and above the footer

where did you come up with the " ?view=discussions " in the URL? I have never seen this advised... certainly not the plain ol' " /content " addition nor is it tt2's Magic Twangers. Are you trying to force something to happen that never will? It is a wonder you don't get a 404.Not Found error!!

7 1 - when I said I tested it, I did. I will give the method if you like, but final proof is looking at the expiration timestamps on two cookies:

apple.com

" s_PathLength " and

" s_ppv"

both are reset for expiration 30 minutes from system time for an HTML link click or page reload

Test by delete those two cookies and go to another page and see if your are now a guest

Just clear all your cookies too many to find 'em all - you will be logged out after 30 minutes, I promise

I use ReloadEvery on a tab every 20 minutes and have yet to be logged out

SafariTabReloader

ReloadEvery: "Reload web pages automatically" <- Firefox

both tested with no side-effects

The new site and method of posting logging in/logging out is inconsistent, it is a poor inefficient design.

I should not have to clear my browser cache to see the "Reply" selection, I should not suffer the Catch-22 Login problem that will shuttle you from a forum to the Apple Support Communities page and back to the forum and still not be able to reply. I should not have to log in to see the most current posts... current posts should be visible to everyone signed in or not. I have confirmed this behavior on Mac, PC and Android platforms using multiple browsers.

Get it together folks. You can say well it does work if you do this then do that, but the fact remains it is a poor, inefficient jive *** design.

Here is the picture of my profile page. I got here after I logged in. If you have linked to the login page and the complete page does not appear and you press reload, I am taken to this page. Didn't ask me why no profile information. I'm a USER. "USERS are losers". ( Ant-drug usage slogan. )

It's a weird link. I do not understand it.

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/rccharles?view=discussions

What is this all about = view=discussions

When I say it doesn't always work, I mean Apple's servers go down or stall and the page doesn't load. For me, I get time out. I have my timer set to 15 minutes. I'm thinking of changing to 14 minutes to give me two tries at getting a page loaded in 30 minutes. I changed to this weird page because it has seemed more reliable to load then the contents of my posts.

Robert - strange things are going on in the forum and particularly this thread - so much so that I am weary of trying to keep track of it all.

Your post, of which I received notice and which appeared benign in all respects is nowhere to be found here - except that it says (the Latest reply link is dead)

" 93 Views 14 Replies Latest reply: Oct 7, 2014 2:17 PM by rccharles [ notice there is no "Branched to a new discussion" ]

your DropBox link from the email notice is EXACTLY what I saw when I used the link that you posted (substitute your AppleID for mine = exactly the same where it counts)

Where did you come by this unusual-not-before-seen-by-me URL?

" It's a weird link. I do not understand it.

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/rccharles?view=discussions "

What I said before... It is a wonder that this URL did not get one a 404 Not Found result.

Here is how I recall getting weird web address. If you have linked to the login page and the complete page does not appear and you press reload, I am taken to this page. ( Didn't happen for me tonight when I tried it. )

Jive mis-codes things. If you want something work the same way, you code it once in a function and call the function as needed. Of course, Jive doesn't implement good coding practices. Thus, we have random behavior.

Your post, of which I received notice and which appeared benign in all respects is nowhere to be found here -

It is there now. There are still navigation problems with forums. Had a problem with last going to the wrong place today. Only one post on last page. Jive went to last post on prior page. Click on next page to get to actual last page.

OK..... When you say "linked to the login page" you mean a browser bookmark? The login page has code in the URL that tells the browser who where to go back to after a successful login ( a PATH string ). Sooo, where were you when you clicked Login as a Guest?

See my followup post positing some sort of lag-time occurring.

If all these anomalies were there all along in the code - Jive Software is a software product that is USER Customizable! - then we would have experienced them from day one = not the case. Because all the customization is done by the fruit shaped man behind the curtain - and mean serious customization - it is probable that the wizard is still trying to fix something that he didn't invent. Would be like us trying to fix a broken installed version of Quicktime.

What do we regularly recommend to folks? Restore from original disks!!

this is likely to be a long and arduous journey.

If you have linked to the login page

I mis-typed. I should have written get to the login page. I'll have to try to recreate this sometime.

I'm using Jive and Apple to mean whoever programmed these forums. There are a lot of bugs in this forum implementation. More than there should be. I know that even a moderate level of code modification is problematic. However who ever is to blame for all the bugs, not enough testing was done. UX was not well thought out nor tested. Beta tests comments were ignored.

Go over to the adbobe forums:

https://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments/content

you are going to see a lot of the same complaints as we find with ASC.
