Iphone 6 dropped in water

Hi all.

So my Girlfriend has managed to drop her iphone in water. It was dropped into a toilet (no I don't know how either) so I guess it got submerged pretty deep.

This happened about 2 and a half hours ago. At the time she said the screen has gone blank, the rear light has come on and the device has got hot.

Now I think this is fatal. It's been drawing power for hours and she isn't home for another half hour. I'm going to try the rice trick though I do not hold out hope. I was wondering, is it worth trying the soft reset, if the phone hasn't power drained, or will that potentially cause more damage IF the phone is save-able or should I just chuck it straight in the bag of rice?

Any other ideas for attempting to save this phone would be welcome but as I said, I'm under no illusion that this phone is pretty much gone.

No it was bought through a carrier (3 uk). I know she didn't purchase extended warranty and she decided to tell me today that we no longer have gadget insurance at the moment. We wouldn't be able to afford the kind of service bill that's going to come of this.

If it's broken, it's broken and it's tough luck as far as I'm concerned. This is what you get when you A - don't use sense when handling your device and B - Don't have insurance. That sounds harsh I know however there are reasons that aren't for a public forum that I'm saying that.

What's your opinions on the soft reset to get the light off? Should I try or not?

It was under water for "2 seconds" apparently. She also put it under a hand drier for a while.

I agree Csound and that's what I've said. The heat and screen switching off sound like that's it. Like I said all this is a long shot.

Apparently it popped out of her pockets as she pulled the trousers up. I have said, now and previously, that it's a wise idea to take the phone out of your pockets before then.

I keep reading this thread and nobody is answering your question about a "...Reset". No you should not do a Reset as that would result in the iPhone turning on if it isn't already. You keep mentioning a "light" being on, so that can't be good. The very most you should do if you think the iPhone is "on" is hope it is actually "off". The Rice Bag is your only hope, and that is very unlikely to work. In any event you do not want to check the phone each day to see if it works. The idea is to give the rice enough time to absorb all moisture before you would ever try powering up the iPhone. I would say you want to do this for at least three or four days minimum. The idea of taking it to an Apple Store right away is a mute point if you don't believe you would want to pay for any repairs.

I just dropped my 6 in the toilet!!! Your thread comes up first when googling. I snatched it out immediately, turned it off (it lit right normally when I clicked and held down the power button), dried it off a bit and put it in a ziploc bag with rice.

Just hoping for the best. I've had it for 3 days :-\ Nothing but a screen protector on it.

Last bit of info...how did I do this? I was helping my young daughter onto the toilet (yay for potty training) when it slid out of my shirt pocket!

Hope you used raw rice. Leave it in the bag for 4 to 5 days and be sure to clean off any rice dust from the phone and the headphone jack before working with it. After this connect your iPhone to power (preferably a wall charger) and let it charge for at least 30 minutes. While it is still connected to power, and after this period, reset it by holding down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons. Might take a few tries.

Ok - I did this and it worked - I dropped in pool for a few seconds. DO NOT PUT in rice, it will hurt the foam integrity in phone. I put in front on fan on low(low to keep from too much lint or debris from getting in phone), put Iphone in front of fan, face the bottom of phone where jack and speakers are towards the fan. I kept it there overnight, charged it, and it worked!!! I hope it works for everyone else.
