Q: iPad running really slow after iOS 8 update

My iPad 2 is running really slow after I upgraded to iOS 8. Every thing is taking a lot of time to upload, weather it is safari or facebook and even there is a typing slag. Anyone else facing the same issue and is there any solution. I have 42GB empty space Left.

Yeah, try doing the reset to factory default by using iTunes on your computer, and also turn off any anti-virus software on the computer. I'll include the links I currently have for this, which includes the backup information, too.

I finally decided to reset to factory default and did not use the backup to restore. So I start over like a new Ipad. Very good results and good speed now. It is the Star Traveler solution (thank you!) and was recommended by a genius guy at Apple.

Thanks for for your favorable comments, and I'm glad you are doing better now. I am convinced that all the iPads that Apple "says" can run iOS 8 ... actually "are able" to run it (in real life).

You provide encouragement to all others who may need to do this, too. Thank you for reporting it to everyone else.

So does your copy paste function perform properly? How long since you did the restore?  I did that several times on advice from Apple.  Seemed to help with some issues...only for a short time...now back to crap.  I am still experiencing every bug since IOS 8.

I have done  it yesterday. The copy paste function is OK. I hope it will last!

I have done just about everything I can think of to make my iPad run better, with the exception of reverting back to iOS 7.  What is the deal Apple?  This is not the only device that is doing this to me, since the new update, my iPad 2, mini 3 and iPhone 5S have all been giving me issues.  It's not us, it's the update.  Please fix this, or I may be forced to jump back to an Android.  Just saying.

I have done like "Star Traveler" suggested by going to recovery mode but my iPad did not erase everything and the rest wasn't perfect at all. So I did the "Erase setting an all contents from iPad setting and then I did the recovery through iTunes same like "Star Traveler" suggested and now my iPad is running almost like before. Thanks a lot for everybody here.

I have done all of the above and still have a shockingly bad iPad (took three attempts to type this without screen freeze) - this has to be in the software which is a very poor indictment on Apple. Very poor!

Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!

First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.

Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.

On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.

This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

    Adding to the troubleshooting methodology:

I didn't restore from a backup. I recovered my music throught Itunes, samething with the apps: but I reinstall only the one I usually use instead of everything I previouly had (and didn't use anyway). I didn't synchronise the photos yet. A step by step process, maybye it's the secret?...

Not restoring from a backup can ... sometimes ... help to resolve an issue. SO ... yes, it could do it.

Hardly an intelligent answer. Are you now supposed to have TWO computers to simply update your iPad?? What if your only computing device is the iPad?? How do you sort the problem then?  Backup on iCloud isnt any use as you only get 5GB of storage and the iPad has 64. So where does it say you have to buy more storage before updating??

This idea of resetting routers etc is a joke. The router works fine. You know when after you update the typing and everything else has a serious lag it's nothing to do with the router.

No one yet has answered this initial question!!

How the **** do you get your iPad to run as it did BEFORE the update?? Its a simple enough question.

iI'm pretty sure his post (I think the 8th post in the thread) is a great answer. It worked for a lot of people, including me. If the iPad is your only computer, why would you not spend an extra .99¢ a month for extra storage?  If you use iTunes match you can save a lot of space also. Your backup is not the total space used on the iPad. Having a 64gb doesn't mean you need that much space of iCloud storage. For example, you don't back up an entire app, you just re-download it from the App Store. I have a 64gb and my iCloud storage has 8.5gb used.

Everyone seems to be missing the point here. What is wrong with you people is what is wrong at Apple!!!!!!

If I update a device I expect it to be sharper and quicker and better than it was before. If it is not then I don't want to have to update it. I don't want to have to have 2 spare computers for back ups etc to solve problems an update creates, I don't want to have to pay a single cent to update, and I most certainly don't want to spend the next few days trying to sort the problems out that the update has caused!! A lot of people here seem to have a lot of spare time to do all this. My iPad that was working just fine two days ago now doesn't work. Not because its broke or i need to reset my router! The update caused it. A simple solution should be on this forum from Apple and an acceptance of responsibility that the update was not necessary in the first place. I'm not a computer wizard and understand how it all works but i know how to use it. Everyone that drives a car is not a mechanic. If I leave my car in for a service I expect it back serviced. Not that I end up having to chase around and end up fixing it myself anyway.

Its as simple as this: I had no problems before the update. After the update I have problems and wasting my time trying to fix them. And not one intelligent answer is on here that solves it.
