Last night I wanted to link my music library from my external hard drive to my iTunes library. Well instead of just setting the path to the music library, I added all the music to the library on my computer. This ended up copying ALL of my music over to my hard drive filling it. So, I found the music file and added it to the trash bin. I then emptied the trash bin and my computer is telling me the harddrive is full still. The weird thing is, when I'm in my disk utility, it says I only have 16.8 MB available, but when I click on the Macintosh HD under it I'm told I have 163.8GB Available.

If you're trying to add a large amount of data all at once, and you get an alert of insufficient space, then from the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Time Machine

If the padlock icon is closed, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON and close the preference pane. Restart the computer. Test.
