Google Chrome Helper and high CPU usage

My fans are always spinning when I run Chrome. I can see two Google Chrome Helper processes under the cpu column in activity monitor. I only have four tabs open. 1Password is the only extension I'm using.

Anyone else having this issue and know how to solve it?

I've been seeing very high CPU usage as well with Chrome for the last week or so. Very high in this case today was 100% on four different tabs, out of the 50 or so I had open. It looks like that corresponded to four tabs that never finished loading. They loaded fine in Firefox. Google pushed an update last week (to 38.0.2125.101). I'm having my doubts about it. It didn't fix that annoying contacts auto-fill issue either.

It looks like at least some cases of this problem were fixed by an update to Google Chrome (to 38.0.2125.111) that was released earlier this week. This has been a long running issue with the chromium code underlying Chrome, with many, many hundreds of complaints on the chromium development boards, so I wouldn't claim that it hit all of them.

One thing that helped me when I was having this problem with the previous build was running an ad blocker on the offending pages. It looked to me like there may have been code in, ironically, Google's DoubleClick ad network that would trigger the bug. At any rate, this might be worth trying if you are still seeing issues with Google Chrome.
